Donald Trump’s promise to rid our military of the “woke” virus is causing consternation in all the right places

Former President Donald Trump’s employ of a mix of scenes from the 1987 Stanley Kubrick film “Full Metal Jacket” interspersed with clips of today’s military has caused some outrage on the left, but especially on the right Dismay people.

I find it undeniable that the military created by Joe Biden and Kamala is only slightly as effective as the military under Trump. And even in Trump’s first term, the decline of DEI and “gender equality” had already taken root. The failure of Biden and Harris is becoming clear every day because the only way to meet their staffing goals is to cut staffing levels. We saw the U.S. Navy on the verge of becoming incapacitated due to a catastrophe in the Western Pacific Shortage of fleet oilers.

Trump’s promise to fire the generals behind this madness is being seen as a campaign issue by Kamala’s wild and undirected campaign.

FOX NEWS: Will you fire these generals? The woke generals at the top?

TRUMP: Yes, I would get rid of them. Yes. But you see, now I know her. I didn’t know her before. But you know, I came in, what do I know? I was a New York real estate agent. But no, I would shoot. I would fire her. You can’t have been woken up by the military.

The bulk of the comments on the video come from intellectuals with room temperature IQs trying to explain that the video shows that Trump doesn’t understand “Full Metal Jacket.” This guy is real. He’s not an AI parody, although he looks and sounds exactly like an AI parody of a clueless leftist would look and sound.

It’s less about Trump not understanding a film and more about Trump’s critics not understanding where R. Lee Ermey fits into popular culture.

A guy who produces Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show says (see Why Trump’s firing promise ‘woke up’ the US generals (msnbc.com)):

Now, however, the Republican apparently has broader plans for a second term and plans to fire US military leaders who do not meet his ideological standards.

At first glance, this may not seem particularly surprising, but let’s not forget that a fundamental principle of the American experience is that we have an apolitical army made up of service members true not to an elected leader but to the U.S. Constitution are.

If Trump intends to politicize the military and fill the ranks with loyalists, he is setting the stage for a dramatic and fundamental change in the way the United States should operate.

I would encourage this man to take another look at how Thomas Jefferson treated well-known Federal Army officers or to consider the fact that the military is not public service. The military is not an independent power center that has “stock.” The president is the commander in chief. Each commissioned officer is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate at every stage of his or her career. I have a copy of the congressional record when the Senate voted to appoint me second lieutenant. No one is advocating a partisan military, but Trump and many of us would like to return to the days when active-duty general officers or even retired general officers stayed out of partisan politics and basic standards of civilized behavior were upheld; see General Mark Milley reportedly stocking up on brown pants in case Trump gets re-elected – RedState. The President has the right, and I would say the duty, to ensure that senior officials faithfully carry out his wishes and do not pressure him behind his back.

The former president has hit generals before, but that was up-to-date. Trump apparently envisions a system in which U.S. military leaders are subjected to a kind of ideological vetting, in which members of a task force – whose members are presumably appointed by Trump – assess the personal attitudes of the generals and admirals.

Those deemed “woke” will apparently have to limit their military careers.

What could go wrong?

There is nothing wrong with Trump doing just that, and the worst outcomes of this process would not be as bad as what we saw when the military was broadly subjugated by the left.
