A novel Fox News poll on immigration shows something surprising; Two-thirds of voters support the mass deportation of illegal immigrants. The surprising thing? That the percentage is so low.
At rallies across the country, former President Donald Trump has promised to carry out mass deportations of illegal immigrants, something he promised in his first term but never fully implemented.
The latest Fox News poll, released Thursday, finds that two-thirds of voters support such policies – exactly where they were last December and up 15 points since the question was first asked Year 2015 was made. Almost a third are against mass deportations.
Since 2015, support for deporting people living in the U.S. illegally has increased across the board, but especially among nonwhite voters (+24 points), Republicans (+21 points), rural voters (+20), and urban voters (+19). ) and men (+16). Democrats are now more likely to support this, but by a smaller margin of 8 points.

The political implications? This is an issue that has a positive impact on the Trump/Vance ticket. Kamala Harris has tried to appear tough on this issue, but it was the Harris/Biden administration, in which she served as border czar, that tried to find the “root causes” of this problem that are responsible for this crisis. Oh, they’re proposing policy solutions, but those proposals are mostly about speeding up the “processing” of these illegals – that is, getting them across the border quicker.
While support for allowing the unemployed to remain unemployed and apply for legal status has declined among most demographic groups, Republicans are the driving force behind the decline – 28 points less than a decade ago. Democrats are the opposite; They are more in favor of being allowed to stay ahead by 4 points.
There is little to no reason to take Harris seriously on this matter. On Thursday, my colleague Nick Arama informed us of a nice loss to Kamala Harris on the matter:

A nation without borders is no nation at all, and Americans are clearly becoming increasingly concerned about the masses that have crossed the border unchecked. As I have reiterated, we have little idea where many of these people come from and they are largely youthful, unaccompanied men of military age. We have little to no idea where they plan to go or what they plan to do when they get here.
The Border Patrol, whose people struggle with this terrible mess every day, knows which side their bread is buttered on, as my colleague Bob Hoge noted on Sunday:

According to Pew ResearchAbout 61 percent of voters say immigration is “very important” to their vote. This is a bit ambiguous; The specific question asked is not asked in the article and it is unclear whether illegal Immigration is the issue. Regardless, immigration is a central issue in this presidential election, and that doesn’t bode well for the Harris/Walz campaign.
There were estimates as of 2022 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States. That number is certainly higher today, and even the 2022 number appears to be a sedate underestimate. A mass deportation of so many people will be a massive undertaking. However, public support for this massive undertaking is growing – and will likely continue to grow.
