KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Former West Virginia House Minority Leader and Republican candidate for Secretary of State Doug Skaff Jr. remains hospitalized for nearly a week after he was bitten by copperhead snakes while removing campaign signs.
Skaff said he was bitten on the left leg and right foot. One of them had become infected, Skaff said on Tuesday, and he could not put any weight on his left foot.
Skaff resigned as House Minority Leader in August 2023 and then resigned in September 2023. His current two-year term would have ended in 2024, as all current members of the House of Representatives were elected in November 2022. He represented the 57th District for nearly 12 years.
The Associated Press called the race for secretary of state for Kris Warner with 46% of the vote. Skaff followed behind at 21%.
