No matter how the November 5th election goes, many of us will likely never forget the wild and unexpected turn the week before, when the national conversation was dominated by a “floating island of trash” and “trash advocates.” Debates rage over apostrophes and such further.
The earlier “garbage” quote, of course, refers to a “joke” that comedian Tony Hinchcliffe told at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s large rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. These comments sparked outrage from the usual suspects, suggesting that Hinchcliffe’s comments were evidence that Trump hated minority communities or whatever.
The latter comments were made by our supposedly fearless leader, President Joe Biden, who told his supporters on a “Voto Latino” call on Tuesday that Trump’s supporters were “trash,” something he blurted out just as Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris took the stage for her “unity” speech.

Of course, the mainstream media jumped in almost immediately, trying to shield Biden and Harris from the Republicans’ understandable condemnations. Politico was, for starters, the worst offender, with “reporter” Jon Lemire carrying not only Joe Biden’s water, but also his luggage, pillows, a stash of aviators, and a dresser full of gold-plated ice cream scoops, as noted by RedState’s Teri Christoph:

In another article at PoliticallyLemire made this excuse:
“Biden, a childhood stutterer who regularly changes course mid-sentence and rambles, posted on social media that he didn’t mean it.”
Biden’s stutter and the White House’s convenient insertion of an apostrophe for “supporter” into the transcript are what their apologists in the press have been grappling with for about 18 hours to dismiss this story as a nonstarter.
For further evidence, we turn to the Washington Post, where journalists there — still fuming over the paper’s refusal to endorse Harris — are using Biden to portray his vice president’s large moment and the fallout from it as a possibility to add your support to the debate:

Yes, there was apparently some sort of zaprudering at the WaPo of the Biden video in question with senior political reporter Aaron Blake announce There were three possible meanings behind what Biden said (bold emphasis by Blake)
- “The only trash I see floating out there is his Supporter. Be – his – his demonization of Latinos is incomprehensible and un-American.”
- “The only trash I see floating out there is his Supporters – his – his – his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American.”
- “The only trash I see floating out there is his Supporter – be – his – his demonization of Latinos is incomprehensible and un-American.”
Later, Blake got the “Biden is often confused” part out of the way, because you know the article wouldn’t be complete without trying to invent a plausible deniability for Biden:
The White House version of the transcript initially called the plural possessive “supporter” before changing it to the singular possessive “supporter” – suggesting this was aimed only at Hinchcliffe.
Which, as already mentioned, is completely plausible. The context is clearly Biden talking about Hinchcliffe’s remark. Biden often speaks without consequence, fails to finish his thoughts and changes course mid-sentence, including in the Delaware comments that preceded his “garbage” remark. It’s basically that entire premise of Dana Carvey’s Biden impersonation on “Saturday Night Live.”
Blake also told a brief story about how he said Trump and his supporters have “repeatedly” tried to turn comments from Biden into the modern “deplorable” moment. A story he hinted at should be kept in mind as people pondered whether Joe Biden really meant Trump supporters were “trash.”
He summed it up this way, obviously grateful that Biden wasn’t more vigorous in campaigning for Harris:
“If there’s one lesson to be learned from all of this, it’s that Democrats should probably be happy that the guy who keeps interfering in this way is no longer really in charge.”
No, the real “lesson” to this is that the media, as usual, is just full of scorching garbage:

I need a decision from the press on this:

The saying about not hating the media nearly enough definitely applies here.
