On Wednesday morning, a “suspicious package” was discovered near the headquarters of the Republican National Committee in the District of Columbia, leading to a lockdown of that building until March 30 Package was inspected and removed.
The Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC was briefly locked down Wednesday morning after a suspicious package was discovered.
A police source told CNN that the package contained two vials of blood, a Korean Bible and two ice packs. The all-clear was given shortly after 9 a.m. ET.
A hazardous materials team is on site and the US Capitol Police is participating in the investigation.
RNC co-chair Michael Whatley said in a statement following the package’s removal: loudly condemned the incident:
“Today, blood samples were sent to RNC headquarters in DC. We are grateful to law enforcement who responded quickly and kept everyone safe. The curfew has been lifted and staff have returned to office work as we remain undaunted and undeterred in our efforts to elect President Trump to the White House,” RNC chief Michael Whatley said in a statement hours after the all-clear was given.
“This disgusting attack comes on the heels of violent demonstrations by pro-Hamas protesters on college campuses and the physical attacks on our campaign workers by crazed Biden supporters. for supporting President TrumpWhatley added.
The vials were addressed to Trump, a source familiar with the situation told the Associated Press. It was unclear who the blood belonged to.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but a hazmat unit was called to headquarters and RNC employees had to leave the building and wait outside for about an hour.
It is vital to note that blood must be treated as a potential biological hazard because it could carry a pathogen. At this time there is no evidence that the two vials of blood in this package posed any danger.
This event follows several recent incidents in which suspicious – or smelly – packages were delivered, presumably as a form of political protest.

Other similar incidents occurred in Virginia, Florida, ConnecticutAnd California. None of the packages caused any damage or injury.
It is unclear whether the timing of this event reflects the Trump team’s virtual takeover of the Republican National Committee headquarters in March. Co-chair Michael Whatley is a vocal Trump supporter and his co-chair is Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law; and as mentioned above, the suspicious package was addressed to Donald Trump.
This is a developing story. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you with updates as events warrant.
