We’ve been bombarded with campaign ads, endless polls and daily news reports about the progress of the presidential election – but it may already be decided.
More than 75 million American voters have already cast their ballots. Almost half of the entire electorate.

I’m newborn enough to remember election day a dayand not a month. I am completely opposed to the Democrats’ attempt to turn this into a seasonal event with mail-in voting and ballot boxes on gloomy street corners. (As an aside: There is a drop box drop-off not far from my house here in Los Angeles that makes me uncomfortable getting out of my car, let alone casting my vote.)
But let’s face it: Progressives have managed to change the rules, and crying about it is a waste of time. Now it’s time to apply these rules and WIN.
Why it matters: That’s over 48% of all voters in 2020 (154.6 million), suggesting that early voting and mail-in voting have become increasingly popular voting methods and a modern normal in American politics.
Based on the numbers: More than 4 million people have already voted in Georgia – accounting for nearly 80% of the state’s total turnout in 2020, according to early voting data from the University of Florida Election Lab tracker.
- North CarolinaEarly turnout reflects a similar range — more than 4.4 million voted, accounting for 80% of the 2020 vote in the battleground state.
And while Republicans have (rightly) railed against these modern rules from the start, they are now taking advantage of them. I would argue that while the modern reality is still wrong – Election Day should be Election DAY – we would still be fools not to fight it on its terms.
- Of those who have voted so far in states reporting party registration data, Democrats hold a slight lead — 37.9% to 36.2%, according to the UF count.
So far, the early numbers show robust support for Donald Trump.
I will never forget the devastating feeling I felt on November 4, 2020. I woke up this morning thinking that Donald Trump had won, but instead we have had four disastrous years of Biden-Harris. We should be confident about our chances at this moment, but we must not be arrogant. Even if half of all people voted, half still didn’t vote. If you are one of them, get out there quickly and do the thing.
Choose as if your life depends on it. Because, well, it kind of does.
