According to Decision Desk HQ forecasts, the Republican Party has gained control of the US Senate.

The first change came fairly early in the night when former West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, won that seat, which was vacant after Sen. Joe Manchin resigned.

Now DDHQ assumes that entrepreneur Bernie Moreno has won the US Senate election in Ohio.

Moreno addressed his followers shortly after 11 p.m. Eastern time, saying (in part):

“A new wave begins today. We talked about wanting a red wave; I think what we have tonight is a red, white and blue wave. Because what we need in the United States of America are people in Washington, DC who will put the needs of American citizens above all else… We’re tired of leaders thinking we’re trash, and we’re at it tired of being treated like trash.”

Moreno added:

“If you’re listening, Chuck Schumer, thanks for the help with the primary, but you’re fired.”

There are other Senate seats in Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Montana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. At this point, it seems very likely that Montana will flip, which will be another boost for Republicans.

Democrats had hoped to knock off Florida Sen. Rick Scott and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, but were unsuccessful.
