W.Va. (WSAZ) – Republican Patrick Morrisey took over the governor’s office in West Virginia on Tuesday.
Morrisey defeated Democratic Huntington Mayor Steve Williams.
Morrisey served three terms as the state’s attorney general.
He had a lopsided campaign fundraising advantage over Williams in a state where registered Republicans far outnumbered Democrats.
Morrisey grew up in New Jersey and moved to West Virginia in 2006. He is the fourth Republican elected governor of West Virginia to his first term since 1933.
The law bars Republican Gov. Jim Justice from running for a third consecutive term.
