Jamal Simmons, a former deputy communications director for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), proposed an idea so wild that even the CNN panel he attended seemed skeptical.
Simmons believes Joe Biden should fulfill his campaign promise of being a “transitional figure” by stepping down from the presidency and allowing Kamala Harris to become the country’s first female president.
Why? Three reasons.
- Essentially, it would give Harris a “chance” to find out what it’s like to be president. As if being the leader of the Free World was some kind of charity.
- This would make it easier for the next woman to run for president because she wouldn’t have to bear the burden of breaking the glass ceiling. Which is wrong, because she would still have to be the first to actually win a presidential election.
- It would spare Kamala the shame of having to certify the election she just lost. Just like Al Gore (2001) and Richard Nixon (1961).
“Joe Biden was a phenomenal president. He has fulfilled so many of his promises. There is one more promise he can fulfill, which is to be a transitional figure,” Simmons told the jury. “He could resign as president in the next 30 days and make Kamala Harris president of the United States.”
CNN’s Scott Jennings, often the lone voice of reason on any of the network’s segments, let out a “Whoa!”
No wonder. What Was What’s surprising is that Dana Bash apparently couldn’t even comprehend what Simmons was saying, adding, “Wow.”
Simmons, undeterred by the resistance, fleshed out his argument.
“It would free them from having to oversee the Jan. 6 transition from their own defeat,” he explained. “And it would ensure that – it would dominate the news at a time when Democrats need to learn drama and transparency and do things that the public wants to see – this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective on that, like “Democrats act.”

What exactly does he mean by saying Democrats should “do things the public wants to see”? If the public wanted to see Kamala as president, she wouldn’t have lost the election in the first place.
Bash pointed out that the suggestion was something relegated to the depths of social media and not necessarily what she – and she alone – saw as a solemn political talk show.
“Okay, this has gone from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show,” a suspicious Bash replied. “Congratulations.”
“It would give Kamala Harris the chance to become the 47th president of the United States of America,” Simmons continued, suggesting that the move would actually be up to the president-elect. “It would destroy all of Donald Trump’s paraphernalia, right? He would have to rename everything.”
Yeah, I’m not sure replacing a man who is cognitively impaired due to age with a woman who is cognitively impaired due to lack of cognitive ability is really worth changing a few t-shirts on the Trump campaign is impaired. It seems… unwise to make America even more vulnerable just to play games with our political opponent.
Simmons was previously communications director for Harris. Now you know why she failed to communicate her policies to the American people and was one of the most bumbling candidates this nation has ever seen. She had that kind of intellectual firepower behind her.
Simmons’ idea is on par with the kind of intellect that led to it Replace Clinton aides all “W” keys on computer keyboards after George W. Bush won the 2000 election.
The idea of throwing Kamala Harris a bone — just because she deserves it — has been raised before. Bash pointed to another crazy conspiracy in which the left would like to see Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor resign so Biden could name Harris as her replacement.
This brilliant idea also came from a CNN commentator, Bakari Sellers.
“The court is now 6-3…The likelihood that Justice Sotomayor will have to resign or retire in the next four years is extremely high,” he said. “You’ve got a damn good vice president who has the legal background to sit on a Supreme Court. And let the Republicans go crazy, monkey, I’m even mentioning that option.”
“Not only do I let it float, I want to stir it all up. I want people’s heads to explode this morning,” he added.

What exactly are they risking at CNN to have multiple experts come up with multiple, different ideas that only a wide-eyed child would find plausible?
Are they all racing for gold at the Bad Idea Olympics? If so, then Simmons has strengthened his case for the top prize. He was so impressed with his idea of installing Kamala as president that he repeated it on X.
“The Democrats have better policies, but we must recognize that the old rules no longer apply. We don’t play table tennis. We are in a mixed martial arts fight and Americans are responding to drama and excitement.” he wrote. “We should use this to make our case for a better way forward.”
They don’t have better policies. If you had done that, your entire party wouldn’t have been completely slaughtered on election day.
Furthermore, Americans have already chosen a “better path forward.” They chose Trump. No amount of imagination to the contrary will change that, gentlemen.
