Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) will reportedly continue to serve as House Speaker in the new Congress following a closed Republican Conference meeting on his nomination on Wednesday.

This came after President-elect Donald Trump addressed House Republicans earlier in the day and said he was “100%” behind Johnson, multiple sources in the space told Fox News Digital.

However, several Republican Party hardliners still support his handling of government spending and foreign aid in the current Congress.

But Johnson faced no significant challengers Wednesday, nor was he expected to, with House Republicans on track to retain the chamber’s majority in the 119th Congress.
