Alex Soros seems to understand why Donald Trump has broad “appeal” – but he’s still missing the point

There is a reason that far-left billionaire activist George Soros and his perhaps even more left-leaning son Alex Soros are among the most perilous figures on the political left. The Soros organizations control billions of dollars, they wield huge influence over liberal and progressive politicians, and worst of all, they are not stupid.

It’s not uncommon for people from all across the political spectrum to assume that their opposition represents their left-wing views because they are uninformed or just plain stupid, but that’s not always the case – and Alex Soros, heir to the Soros fortune and the Soros organization, is not the case dummy. He recently commented on President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory, and he does hit close to the target:

The son of far-left Democratic billionaire kingmaker George Soros said President-elect Donald Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris because he was a “super candidate” who his party underestimated.

“Too many Democrats argue about campaign tactics because it’s easier than accepting that Trump was underestimated as a candidate,” says Alex Soros, 39, wrote on X Friday.

“He was a ‘super candidate’ with increasing appeal to a broader electorate – probably beyond the reach of both Democrats and Republicans.

What Alex Soros apparently doesn’t understand is the fact that the far-left political positions represented by the Harris/Walz campaign – if they represent political positions at all – cost the Democratic candidates just as much as Donald Trump’s super candidate, crossover appeal helped that Trump/Vance campaign. Most Americans don’t want boys playing on their daughters’ school sports teams or using their daughters’ locker rooms. Most Americans are tired of the endless influx of illegal immigrants and the societal burdens and crime that come with it.

Still, he’s not wrong about Trump; He correctly identifies a key reason for Trump’s appeal, and moreover, he has known this for some time.

Alex Soros Sends Disturbing Tweet About Donald Trump; Is a Secret Service visit appropriate?

Now that the election is behind us, we see that Soros has a pretty good idea of what happened. He is right on one point in particular: The left has greatly underestimated Donald Trump, his campaign and his appeal to a broad spectrum of Americans. Donald Trump increased his vote share in many demographic groups, and he increased his vote share in 49 states compared to the 2020 election; he just lost New Jersey by five points! The very fact that Soros looked at the election and made a sober and broadly right assessment of events is a problem, because that estimate will fuel his efforts to mess up our next election in 2026.

And make no mistake: the elder Soros is still heavily involved, too.

It is no exaggeration to say that George and Alex Soros are enemies of freedom. They are to the left of the pack of even most of today’s Democrats and have plenty of money to pour into their candidates’ campaigns and policies they want to implement. The fact that they also appear to have some insight into how and why elections can be won only makes them more problematic.

A good rule of thumb in American politics, at least when it comes to politics: If the Soros clan favors a policy or candidate, then that policy or candidate is bad for America.
