CBS’ smug “60 Minutes” host Scott Pelley denigrates Trump’s historic victory, because of course he does

On Sunday’s super-fun episode of CBS’s “60 Minutes,” host Scott Pelley did whatever he wanted Always does that when he speaks pompously about anything even remotely related to President-elect Donald Trump.

Interestingly, the show lasted 90 minutes.

Pelley kicked off the festivities by shouting out Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, recently resigned Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL), former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, “Fox & Friends” Weekend co-host Pete Hegseth and independent presidential candidate 2024 Robert shot F. Kennedy Jr., all of whom were appointed to Cabinet positions by Trump (emphasis mine):

Last week, Republicans won the majority in the House of Representatives and President-elect Trump made nominations for his Cabinet. Some nominees seem to have no compelling requirements other than loyalty to Trump.

The nominees are: Senator Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. Pete Hegseth takes charge of the 3 million-person Defense Department. Most recently, he’s a combat veteran, Fox News morning show host with no number Government experience.

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz has been appointed attorney general in charge of law enforcement. Gaetz was investigated by Republicans for alleged drug employ and sex with a minor. Gaetz denies these allegations.

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard named Director of National Intelligence. She called for a pardon for Edward Snowden, who leaked US secrets and now lives in Russia. And Robert Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services, a vaccine skeptic.

Rather than go into detail about each of Pelley’s slams, let’s just highlight a few obvious ones.

That’s right, Pete Hegseth, an Army National Guard officer with two Bronze Star medals, two Army Commendation medals and a National Defense Service Medal, and a Princeton graduate who went on to earn a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School earned a degree in government from Harvard, has no “government experience” – meaning the distinguished military veteran and scholar also has no experience in government Government bureaucracy.

As for Matt Gaetz, let’s be straightforward.

The Trump loyalist is Trump’s most controversial candidate to date. Gaetz’s critics, including some Republicans, see him as an opportunistic instigator, while others, including Fox News contributor and editor-in-chief of The Federalist Mollie Hemingway, believe the recently resigned congressman was an excellent choice for attorney general.

Hemingway said:

Matt Gaetz was nominated for this position because we have a problem with the Justice Department. Over the last eight years they have trampled on the rule of law in this country. They prosecuted political opponents. They spread the Russia collusion hoax. And too many people in Washington, D.C., didn’t speak out against what happened there, and many Americans are upset about it.

Hemingway also addressed the Justice Department and FBI’s “hatred” of Gaetz, which is good considering both agencies also hate Trump.

In miniature, the left hates Tulsi Gabbard because she left the Democratic Party to become an independent and then committed the greatest sin of all: supporting and campaigning for Trump before being appointed as his Director of National Intelligence.

Finally, let’s turn to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was appointed by Trump to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Yes, Kennedy’s views on vaccinations and other medicines are controversial to some, but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Even former Trump White House COVID Response Task Force Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx said Sunday she was “excited” to hear Kennedy’s answers during his confirmation hearing.

Again, as is the case with the left’s contempt for Gabbard, Kennedy left the Democratic Party and supported Trump in the election.

So back to Pelley’s smug diatribe. The veteran “journalist” suggested that the majority of senators may not believe that Trump’s nominees are “capable of representing the American people.”

It will be up to the recent Republican majority in the Senate to decide whether these candidates are capable of representing the American people. It seems tough to remember when America was united. But recentlyWe were reminded of one such time – the morning of September 11, 2001 – when all Americans vowed to persevere together. Nearly a quarter century ago, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner promised to identify the remains of the lost souls of 9/11. Not many are aware of it, but this work has never stopped.

Huh?

Aside from it being more than 20 years ago “recently” (9/11), Trump’s victory was historic, as countless Democrats crossed party lines to vote for him, black and Hispanic voters voted for him in record numbers, and he became one the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in 20 years.

Simply put: Like the majority of Democrats, Pelley simply can’t handle it.
