CBS’ “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert invited Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) to Thursday’s episode of the left-wing “entertainment show” to promote, of all things, his novel children’s book and explain the differences between them Republicans and Democrats. Yes, grab the popcorn.
Before the segment ended, Colbert concluded that Republicans don’t believe all Americans should have access to health care. Surprised? Me neither.
Colbert brought up the issue with a predictable left-wing lineup.
To shed some airy on this, because while almost everything in what you just said is very good to say, a Republican sitting in this seat could say the same thing: except access to healthcare for all. Well, we will We want to protect and strengthen Social Security, not eradicate or end it as we know it. We will protect and strengthen Medicare, protect the Affordable Care Act because we believe that in the United States of America, of course Healthcare should not be a privilege but a right and we want to bring this to life and believe that every job in America should be a well-paying job that allows you to live a comfortable life. The Democratic Party has melodramatically declared for decades that it would “protect” Social Security and more from the heartless, if not evil, Republican Party.
Anyway, there’s a lot to “unpack” (as snobs like to say) in Jeffries’ explanation, and most of it was idiotic.

First, the Republican Party has never threatened to “eradicate” or degrade Social Security, which should be viewed as such Safety net and not the cornerstone of retirement income. Second, health care shouldn’t be a privilege, of course, but neither should it be funded by taxpayers for people who are perfectly capable of paying for it themselves. If not, take a look Medicaid.
