Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson once joked about the Trump administration’s many legal missteps in policymaking during his first term, asking his team, “Do you think a lawyer has looked at this?”

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for another term, Ferguson is no longer laughing, and Democratic officials in blue states are no longer laughing either, according to a New York Times Report.

Concern is growing among Democratic leaders about their ability to challenge Trump’s policies this time. Unlike his first administration, where procedural missteps made it easier for Democrats to successfully challenge his order, Trump appears better prepared.

“One concern I have is that Donald Trump and his administration may be better prepared,” Ferguson told the New York Times.

The report said the recent Trump administration “carries new power that Mr. Trump did not have eight years ago,” a fact that Democrats appear to recognize.

“I think we are prepared for it to be much more aggressive, much faster and much tougher,” said Connecticut Attorney General William Tong.

Mr. Trump has built a cadre of advisers who have spent years thinking about how to implement his plans for the country. The recent administration is also likely to benefit from a court system that is now more tilted in favor of Mr. Trump.

The report said the president-elect is “preparing to appoint some of his most loyal followers to key positions, including the office of attorney general, responsible for defending government policies and prosecuting those who do not comply with them.” “.

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority, along with Republicans who control both chambers of Congress, will represent a more formidable government apparatus when it comes to advancing Trump’s agenda.

Nevertheless, the democratic states are preparing for a fight. Leaders in blue states are coordinating strategies and mobilizing legal teams to oppose the president-elect’s agenda. The focus is expected to be on immigration, environmental regulations and states’ rights.

“We don’t know exactly what’s coming or how it’s going to come, so we just have to be ready,” said Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum.

In fact, Democratic attorneys general have begun meeting weekly to strategize. They have focused on the details of Project 2025, a conservative political plan that Democrats have desperately tried to operate against the president-elect in order to persuade voters to vote against him.

This report follows other reports indicating that Democratic lawmakers have already articulated their “opposition” to the recent Trump administration, even though they do not control either chamber of Congress.

House Democrats are currently considering how to impede Trump’s efforts while protecting President Joe Biden’s policies, a report says Axios Report. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is at the forefront of the movement, exploring defensive strategies for Republican control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.

“We as Democrats need to roll up our sleeves and go into defense and protect mode,” Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) told Axios.

The effort includes mobilizing multiple factions, including the Progressive, Black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific American and Equality caucuses. The goal of this coalition is to identify potential executive orders that President Biden could issue to protect current policies that are ostensibly aimed at protecting marginalized communities.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) stated, “Many things can be undone, but it may take longer to undo them and it will force a priority on what they are focused on want to concentrate.”

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) told Axios, “There are conversations happening where people are trying to figure out if there are some steps that can reduce the damage.”

With no power in the legislature, Democrats will focus on messaging to sway public perception against the recent Trump administration. However, with Republicans controlling Congress and the White House, and conservative justices sitting on the Supreme Court and other essential positions, it is clear that the president-elect will have an easier time pushing through his agenda — at least for the next two years.
