One of the biggest winners of the 2024 election season may be CNN commentator Scott Jennings, the uncommon voice of reason on a network full of furious leftists. Jennings’ witty take on the election, including his “I don’t understand words well” assessment of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, provided conservatives with some comic relief in the stressful months leading up to the election.
And things haven’t slowed down for Jennings since Donald Trump’s victory on November 5th. As RedState has reported, Jennings continues to have fun calling out his left-wing colleagues for their ridiculously harsh views on Trump, while also offering sage advice to the right after Matt Gaetz himself retired as Trump’s attorney general.
Scott Jennings takes the issues seriously but doesn’t take himself too seriously – something deeply lacking in the left-controlled media of 2024 – and that makes him relatable to viewers.
It also makes him a warm commodity for the few media elites that actually take stock of their failings and at least nominally attempt to remedy them. Shortly after the election, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong said specified He would overhaul the entire operation, including the newsroom, to ensure “all voices are heard.”
“If it’s news, it should just be the facts, period,” Soon-Shiong told “Fox News @ Night“Host Trace Gallagher on Thursday. “And if it’s an opinion, then maybe that’s an opinion on the news, and that’s what I now call a voice. “So we want voices from all sides to be heard and for the news to be just facts.”
And Soon-Shiong has made good on that promise by adding none other than Scott Jennings to the LA Times editorial board. Jennings went to X to confirm the news:
It’s true – I agreed @DrPatSoonShiong Invitation to join the editorial board of @latimes. I have written columns for the newspaper for the past few years and it has been an honor to do so under such a storied and crucial masthead. I love newspapers and believe in mighty journalism… https://t.co/GrMa44T6en

The text of Jennings’ announcement:
It’s true – I agreed @DrPatSoonShiong Invitation to join the editorial board of @latimes. I have written columns for the newspaper for the past few years and it has been an honor to do so under such a storied and crucial masthead. I love newspapers and believe in mighty journalism and mighty opinion pages that represent a wide range of opinions. The way I approach my work as a commentator is to start with the truth and then offer my forthright opinion based on my conservative values and experiences. I think that Dr. Soon-Shiong is doing something crucial and groundbreaking, and I’m honored that he asked me to play a role in it. About half (or more) of the country often feels that the legacy media doesn’t care what they think and has little interest in fairly representing their views and values. I plan to represent those Americans who believe they are often ignored or even ridiculed in the legacy media, and applaud Dr. Soon-Shiong’s move to ensure balance in the editorial team. My other professional obligations will not be affected by this new opportunity.
It’s a astute move. Despite voicing his words on mainstream sites like CNN and the LA Times, Scott Jennings understands the changing media landscape and offers an approach that utilizes humor while coming from a place of truth. With unprecedented trust in the media lowthe entire industry needs an overhaul and would do well to follow Jennings’ lead. He’s not mean and he’s not hateful, but he’s direct and he lands his rhetorical punches based on facts.
However, the Left promptly announced that this was the case furious at the thought of a conservative voice being raised.
On
One person wrote: “If he thinks Jennings is in any way “thoughtful” or “balanced,” he is stupid or unsophisticated.
“It is more likely that he will curry favor with Trump.” “I am all the happier now that I have canceled my 60-year subscription.”
Another added: “Unfortunately Scott Jennings will be joining the LA Times editorial board. ‘I hope this drives the LA Times out of business and into bankruptcy!’
The joy is gone, all of you. What they don’t realize, and apparently never will, is that fair reporting on Donald Trump isn’t a “provision” – that’s called journalism. And journalism needs voices like Scott Jennings to restore some level of trust to its profession.
We leave you with this tweet that sums things up well:
It’s so uncommon for a newspaper to hire a conservative that it makes national headlines. pic.twitter.com/OvJmBiwQCs
