President-elect Donald Trump continues to present solid candidates for his novel administration, suggesting that this time he is much more attuned to the need to field qualified candidates to achieve his stated goals — and the sweet revenge of success.
On Monday evening, Trump announced another standout choice: attorney Harmeet Dhillon, CEO of the Center for American Freedom and managing partner of Dhillon Law Group, which he hired as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social:
I am pleased to appoint Harmeet K. Dhillon to serve as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. Throughout her career, Harmeet has consistently advocated for protecting our treasured civil liberties, including against Big Tech for censoring our free speech, representing Christians prevented from praying together during the COVID-19 crisis, and the Lawsuit against companies that discriminate against their workers using “woke” policies . Harmeet is one of the best election lawyers in the country, fighting to ensure that all and ONLY legal votes are counted. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School and served as a law clerk at the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Harmeet is a respected member of the Sikh religious community. In her novel role at DOJ, Harmeet will be a tireless defender of our constitutional rights and enforce our civil rights and election laws FAIRLY and FIRMLY.
Congratulations, Harmeet!

After internal drama, Trump names novel candidate for White House counsel
Dhillon, a stalwart supporter of civil liberties, challenged Ronna McDaniel for RNC chairmanship in January 2023. Although that bid was ultimately unsuccessful, she has remained a staunch supporter of the party, leading a prayer at the Republican National Convention in July – and for election integrity, leading the effort in Arizona to ensure the April 5 election November were free and fair.
As I write this, members of her firm are in Alaska overseeing the ranked-choice recount.
I asked her for a photo with a moose and that’s what I got! https://t.co/hq4binhHHk

Following Trump’s announcement, Dhillon expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and for the support of her loved ones on X:
I am extremely honored by President Trump’s nomination to support our country’s civil rights agenda. It has been my dream to serve our great country and I am thrilled to be part of an incredible team of attorneys led by @PamBondi. I can’t wait to get to work!

Without the support of my amazing mother and brother, as well as my beloved father Tejpal and husband Sarv, who did not live to see this day, I would not be here today. I hope to honor her memory with the grace of God.
Those of us who have followed Dhillon’s career and many accomplishments are excited to see how this impacts the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
