Let the Democrats whine all they want; It was your turn and it will soon be over.

The Democrats just gave the Republicans a spending fight slam dunk, if they’re sharp enough to take it

Republicans must put aside their differences and come together to do the sharp thing. Pass a neat CR and force the hand of democratic leadership.

Senator Kennedy analyzes Democratic witnesses during climate hearings with delicious wit

Kennedy cuts through the palaver and gets down to business by pointing out the difference between what witnesses say and what they do.

WHAT’S UPCOMING?

Today on Capitol Hill…

So. This escalated quickly…

There are no formal hearings on the Hill today, but the sound you hear is the patter of members of Congress walking here and there through the Capitol trying to figure out how best to solve the funding problem (a neat CR is coming comes to mind) and how to avoid a Christmas shutdown. Be sure to grab the popcorn because this is Kabuki theater at its best.

Full court press…

There’s always the possibility that the New York Court of Appeals will get in on the fun and issue its ruling in President-elect Donald Trump’s civil fraud complaint (though we’re no longer holding our breath on that matter).

On Wednesday, we learned that Trump’s legal team has filed another motion to overturn the verdict in the Manhattan Business Records case – this time based on jury misconduct.

Florida also announced that the state would file charges against would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh – although the government appears to be blocking its efforts.

Additionally, the US Supreme Court agreed to give the TikTok ban an urgent review.

Sean “Diddy” Combs had a status conference in court on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing in his case has been scheduled for March 17, 2025, but no trial date appears to have been set.

Morning rumination

We’ve heard quite a bit about growing (or buying) a spine this week, compliments of the one and only Senator John Kennedy (R-LA). He brought it up as part of a hearing with the NCAA and its stance on protecting women’s sports, but it applies to the larger realm of government and politics – particularly as we look at the turmoil surrounding spending and the budget. I have a measure of compassion for those trying to navigate a narrow passage through the Fire Swamp, but it is time for them to realize that we have a sporadic – exceedingly sporadic – opportunity to defeat the swamp – Flame jets, lightning sand and ROUSs and everything.

If not now, when? Seize the day, friends. Seize the day.

LIGHTER COST

Wait for it…
