Lara Trump announced Saturday that she is withdrawing her name because the Senate seat is being vacated by Florida’s Marco Rubio (R), who, if confirmed, will become Donald Trump’s secretary of state.

She posted her announcement on X:

The tweet continues:

It would have been a great honor to serve as co-chair of the RNC in the most critical election of our lifetime, and I am truly humbled by the incredible support shown to me by the people of our country and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough.

I have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so stay tuned.

Public service remains very close to my heart and I look forward to serving our country again at some point in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck in this appointment.

Ms. Trump, wife of the president-elect’s second son, Eric, has had a largely successful term as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. She resigned in early December, saying: “My work here is done.”

There was much speculation about whether Gov. Ron DeSantis would appoint her, an outcome that Donald Trump confirmed recently downplayed because he didn’t necessarily believe DeSantis would make that decision, but the point is now moot. It’s not clear what Lara’s next move will be, but as she said in her statement, news is coming her way in the up-to-date year:
