Throughout the 2024 presidential campaign, candidate and now President-elect Donald Trump made no secret of his plans for people in the United States illegally: He promised to deport them, troublemakers first, and to that end he has hired Tom “The Hammer.” ” called “Homan as the new “border czar” replacing Kamala Harris, who was more of a “border no-show.”
Naturally, this plan was met with opposition from Democrats. The latest example of such resistance is that the outgoing Biden administration is considering putting up some hurdles The up-to-date government’s deportation plans.
The Biden administration is considering expanding protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants whose status in the United States will expire in the first months of the Trump administration, according to U.S. officials and documents seen by The New York Times.
The move would make it more complex, although not impossible, for President-elect Donald J. Trump to deport these people. But it is a sign that the Biden administration may try in its final weeks to put up some obstacles to what Mr. Trump has promised would be the largest deportation in U.S. history.
Mind you, note the Weasel language: they are “considering” expanding protection. This wouldn’t be the first time the New York Times has released a trial balloon on behalf of the Democratic Party.
And the thing is: if they do, tackling them might be harder than we like to think.
Mr. Trump tried to eliminate the program in his first term, and his advisers have done so made clear that he will try again as part of a comprehensive crackdown on legal and illegal immigration. If President Biden were to extend TPS, even to a relatively compact group of people, Mr. Trump would either have to wait for the protection to expire or cancel it early — something that would almost certainly be challenged in court.
Note that illegal immigration was a major issue in the 2024 election, more for Republicans than Democrats, but in overall the top ten. This could be why the Biden administration is currently “considering” this move.

Still, if you look at this from the perspective of the Biden administration — and from “the Biden administration staff or whoever is really in charge,” then we’re learning day by day that impoverished, confused aged Joe is getting worse than we thought ourselves – there is nothing to lose by complicating Trump’s deportation efforts. The up-to-date administration will initially focus these efforts on known criminals and gang members, and that is the case. The priority should be getting bad actors out of our country, and if anyone is wondering where to start looking for them, I might start by pointing you to a few apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado.
Admittedly, this program has the potential to affect about a million people, and chances are that most of them will not be on this high-priority deportation list. If the Biden administration attempts this, there will certainly be no straightforward counter-proposal; That won’t stop Donald Trump and Tom “The Hammer” Homan from starting the job rounding up known gang members and criminals for one-way travel back to their countries of origin.
