The aftermath of the 2024 election cycle has brought with it some fascinating analysis and analysis of what went right and what went wrong in both presidential campaigns – and the media’s coverage of it.
Clearly there was more that went right with the Trump-Vance campaign and more that went wrong with the Harris-Walz campaign, judging not only by the final results but also by how President-elect Donald Trump is viewed as the de facto dominant president at this point The news cycle with decisions including nominations for various administrative positions.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, on the other hand, both seem content to keep their profiles fairly low, except that Biden is doing some pretty despicable things like commuting the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates to life in prison without parole.

Vice President-elect JD Vance also continues to impress, showing that the Republican Party has a dazzling future on several fronts if the ship is steered in the right direction (though there will undoubtedly be problems along the way).
And on that front, we recently learned a little more about why Trump chose Vance in the first place. Two senior Trump campaign officials, co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita and Trump election guru Tony Fabrizio, sat down for an interview with Politico in which they revealed, among other things, that Vance was a “intentionally“Vote for Trump for one pretty vital reason:
Politico: I’m tempted to ask you if he would still have chosen JD if Kamala had already been nominated – if Biden had dropped out at the time you were choosing your running mate, would it have been a different choice?
Fabrizio: Honestly, I don’t know. This is an imponderable, I tell you that the choice of JD was a very conscious decision.
Politico: How?
Fabrizio: Well, I think, firstly, they have a really good personal relationship. Secondly, I think he sees JD – and I’m not trying to put words in the president’s mouth – he sees JD as the torchbearer of MAGA, so to speak. This was a generational choice. That means: “I want this movement to go beyond me.”
In other words, Trump saw the room, understood the moment, and strategically selected Vance to carry the torch in the next presidential election cycle.
In the interview, both also shared that their most effective ads were the ones where they simply let Vice President Kamala Harris speak for herself.
“With her words. And there were a lot of them. In fact, there were so many that we couldn’t apply them all,” noted Fabrizio, echoing what we’ve been saying about Harris since day one, namely how she is her own worst enemy.
In any case, as I mentioned, a Trump-Vance victory will obviously be good for Republicans heading into 2028. But it will also be good for the country in the next four years. And not just because Trump can make America great again, but because after four dismal years with Kamala Harris in that role, Vance can finally make the vice presidency great — and respectable — again.
