HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – It’s the end of an era in Huntington as Mayor Steve Williams’ final term comes to an end.

Williams gave his final address to the Huntington City Council Monday night, saying it was “the honor of a lifetime” to lead his hometown as mayor for three terms.

The mayor said when he took his oath of office, he promised to make Huntington a stronger, safer and more vivid city. He says there have been successes and challenges still remain, but he believes the Jewel City’s best days still lie ahead.

“The 100 best cities to live in now, the 50 best cities to retire in. The 17th best run city. And as I said, we were listed as America’s Best Church. We’re going in the right direction. “I have faith and I’m really excited to see what Mayor Farrell will do,” Williams said.

Williams also thanked all city employees for their work and reminded the next leadership group to “don’t make small plans.”

Mayor-elect Patrick Farrell will assume the city’s top role in the up-to-date year. The Republican is an Air Force veteran and local businessman.
