There is little doubt that the Democratic Party has experienced a significant case of sadness since Election Day. And to be completely candid, it gives me great pleasure to report that the mysterious illness of liberals continues unabated.
On Monday, the New York Times organized a “Online written discussionmoderated by opinion writer Frank Bruni and featuring progressive campaign consultant Anat Shenker-Osorio, Democratic communications strategist Lis Smith and former Ohio representative Tim Ryan.
The group came together to analyze the state of the Democratic Party following its tough election defeats in November.
Bruni opened the conversation by saying that the once-formidable resistance party was in complete disarray and couldn’t really say how it was bombed on November 5th. He asked what this panel believed was the biggest problem.
Smith, who once served as a senior adviser to Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign, didn’t hold back and plunged straight out of the race in a brutal defeat.
“The Democratic brand is in the toilet,” she declared.
Inject this directly into my veins:
“Democrats have moved beyond soul-searching to soul-caving—descending into whole new subterranean caverns of analysis,” he writes @FrankBruniin a discussion about the future of the party @Lis_Smith, @TimRyan And @anatosaurus. https://t.co/pDJEHFosyj

Yes, Christmas is just around the corner and Democrats’ concerns about the election are bringing great joy to many people during the holidays. Perhaps the most critical aspect of Smith’s analysis, however, is this: The only candidates with a “D” next to their name who did well in the election moved as far away from the “D” designation as possible.
“Many of the Democrats who were successful this cycle — our top House candidates, for example — are people who ran against the Democratic Party brand,” she commented.
“Trump tore down the blue wall in the industrial Midwest, but he also expanded his vote the most in our bluest, most urban areas.”
Bruni responded to the “toilet” comment with the word “Yikes,” wondering if Smith was being too harsh with her opinion. But Smith refused to hit the brakes.
“If the best way to win as a candidate is to run against your own party, then so be it The bad,” she replied.
Democrats’ autopsies begin and three focus groups leave party leaders in tatters
This is a trace. As RedState reported on the same day as the Times roundtable, three different focus groups showed signs that the Democratic Party should panic. Not only because of the massive defeat on Election Day, but also because they have no working plan to get out of the nosedive they are currently experiencing.
Trump and the Republicans have beaten them so challenging that they can’t get out of their personal doldrums to fight back now.
Participants in these focus groups condemned the Democratic Party as “complacent and lazy” and “no friend of the working class” and said they had hitched their horse to the radical progressive wagon “even if (these ideas) fail.”
Even Democrats can’t ignore it: The “stench of the loser” lingers in the party as Trump’s appeal grows
The fact that the party is currently in the toilet is also reflected in recent comments from DNC Finance Committee member Lindy Li, one of her party’s most vocal post-election critics.
(She eventually announced that it was her leave the partyhe said it was tantamount to “leaving a cult.”)
Li accused her former party of having the “stench of losers” after the Kamala disaster.
“And I’m sorry, speaking as a Democrat myself, it doesn’t take me any pleasure to say it, but I feel like the Democrats are going to be relegated to the wilderness for at least the next four to eight years,” she said added:

When you’ve been defeated on the field so clearly that two words come to mind: “toilet” and “stink,” you know it’s been a tough ride.
How bad? Coach Jim Mora should come out of retirement and hold that press conference about the Democratic Party’s performance…

28 years ago today we got the “diddly poo” tirade from Jim Mora 😂

As for the Times’ online conversation, Shenker-Osorio disagreed with Smith’s assessment that Democrats are akin to a toilet. She thinks it’s too nice to call it “toilet.”
“Well… toilets clearly have a use, so perhaps the comparison is even ‘generous,'” she said.
