As RedState previously reported, there was what law enforcement officials called a “premeditated” attack in New Orleans in the early hours of New Year’s Day in which a man rammed a pickup truck into spectators on Bourbon Street ringing in the year 2025. At least ten people were killed and even more injured.

As we also noted, the FBI’s New Orleans team suspected it was a terrorist attack and indicated that the suspect, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, was dead after he attempted to engage in a gun battle with police officers to enter, two of whom are reportedly in stable condition.

The investigation of this act as a terrorist attack led to startling confusion early on at the FBI, which later confirmed that it was treating the attack as such.

Following the attack and the realization that the truck had allegedly crossed the border into Eagle Pass, Texas, in November, Republican politicians are offering condolences to the families, providing resources and demanding accountability.

As we mentioned, President-elect Donald Trump’s robust statements condemning the attack took center stage pointed Contrary to President Joe Biden’s lukewarm statement.

Here are some other statements from Republican elected officials:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX):

My team and I are closely monitoring the atrocities in New Orleans.

The investigation is ongoing, but what we already know is terrible. I will work with my colleagues and the Trump administration to hold everyone involved accountable.

Heidi and I are deeply grateful to all the law enforcement and first responders who bravely rushed to the scene and confronted the evil. We continue to pray for the families and loved ones of the victims.

This is of course a developing story. RedState is monitoring developments and will provide updates throughout the day. Please keep the surviving victims and the families of those whose lives were taken in your thoughts and prayers.
