Bernie Sanders vows he will not attend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress. He will not be missed.
The Prime Minister was invited by both Democrats and Republicans, Congress leaders say is a step to “highlight American solidarity with Israel.” Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries signed the letter that was sent to Netanyahu.

Bernie Sanders’ motto is “Not me, we.” That obviously doesn’t apply here, since he won’t be attending the event with his other friends from the left-wing camp.
I thought @KonstantinKisin was cheeky.
No, Bernie Sanders actually spent his honeymoon in the Soviet Union. https://t.co/rOg2nFoSTS

Sanders claims he supports Israel’s right to defend itself, but not to go to war against the entire Palestinian people. He doesn’t explicitly describe how a country would do this under the conditions Israel faced. He simply says they’re doing it wrong.
In 2023, an estimated 2.1 million people lived in Gaza. Even taking into account the unreliable and often inflated reports on the conflict’s death toll, which say that some 30,000 Palestinians have died in the war, that would be less than 1.5 percent of the population. If Israel wanted to go to war against the Palestinian people, it would have the means to do so. However, the numbers show great restraint given the circumstances.
But unfortunately, in Sanders’ superficial universe, things can be made up and the facts don’t matter.
Bernie is known for his belief in universal politics, modeled on the European countries he seems to love so much. Some people choose a beach for their honeymoon, a silent cabin in the mountains, or a bustling city with great restaurants. He chose the Soviet Union.
It is no wonder that this communist sympathizer cannot understand Israel’s right to security and the actually the real cost of freedom. Between him and the Squad, the left has its hands full with politicians who do not understand the Western way of thinking and are either openly or covertly anti-American.
The bipartisan invitation is an opportunity to build bridges with one of our strongest allies in an unimaginable conflict:
The existential challenges we face, including the growing partnership with Iran, Russia, and China, threaten the security, peace, and prosperity of our countries and of free people around the world. To build on our enduring relationship and highlight America’s solidarity with Israel, we invite you to share the Israeli government’s vision to defend democracy, combat terror, and build a just and lasting peace in the region.
Frankly, Bernie will not be missed. Netanyahu will not be worried about his empty seat, and neither should we. If Bernie really wants to go all out, maybe he can invite Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib to his “boycott” party. That will be beneficial for all of us.
