Bill Maher, often regarded by those of us on the right as one of America’s more reasonable liberals (yes, I know, that sets the bar really low), seems to be back to form. He recently appeared with Chris Wallace on his Max streaming show “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” where Maher discussed former President Donald Trump, his campaign, his opponent – and then things got weird. My colleague on the sister site Townhall, Sarah Arnold, reports:
He (Maher) repeated the debunked theory that Trump will “refuse” to leave office and be succeeded by President Joe Biden. Maher claimed that Republicans are blind to Trump’s motives and suggested that the frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election is quietly plotting to take over the government.
Maher’s liberal madness did not end there.
He said that Trump will appear on Inauguration Day on January 20, 2025, and claim he won.
Yes, he will not do that. Maher continued: .
That’s the only thing I can predict with absolute certainty. He will never, as I have said over the years, concede a choice. He certainly will not concede this one.
It’s an exaggeration to say that there’s a massive difference between not admitting defeat — and I remind you, dear readers, that Hillary Clinton never accepted her 2016 defeat and probably never will — and showing up at the inauguration with an incensed mob demanding to be sworn in. The former seems likely in Trump’s case, should he lose. The latter? Not going to happen. Relax, Bill.
Bill Maher said a few more slightly crazy things:
But you’ll notice that Maher also said some things that make a certain amount of sense; he believes Trump will win in November, and that certainly looks like it at the time of this writing. He also acknowledges that Joe Biden is a bad candidate, which, if it isn’t the biggest understatement of the year, will remain so until a better one comes along. He continued:
“He’s definitely going to win now. And Biden doesn’t look like a very good candidate,” Maher added.
On the contrary, Maher briefly deviated from his usual jabs at Trump and said that this time he was running “a much more serious campaign” than in 2016.
But although Maher’s show was primarily devoted to mocking Republicans, he admitted that the Democratic Party’s ideas had become “stupid.”
“People have told me that I make fun of the left more than I used to and that I feel guilty. I do because the left has changed,” he continued. “Just, you know, no. It’s not that I’ve gotten old, it’s that your ideas are stupid. OK. Common sense is common sense and I’m going to denounce it no matter where it is on the spectrum.”
And he is not wrong – neither about the seriousness of Trump’s campaign nor about the fact that the Democrats have been pushed so far to the left that they have exceeded all reason.
But we all knew that already.

I think Bill Maher would probably be an intriguing guy to sit down with, have an alcoholic beverage, and get gas. His political views aside, he’s clever and engaging, and he gives the impression that he can disagree with you without calling you names, getting incensed, or calling you stupid. That’s actually a good part of his brand.
But when it comes to Donald Trump, he loses a lot of his objectivity. The idea that if Donald Trump were to lose the election, he would just show up on Inauguration Day and demand to be sworn in is just Bill’s Trump Derangement Syndrome manifesting itself. He doesn’t have as bad a case of TDS as some others, but he still has it.
