As RedState previously reported, House Republicans voted on the first ballot to allow Donald Trump-backed Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) to retain the speakership after initial doubts (due to some holdouts) about his ability to do so would be to do this.
After two of the holdouts, Reps. Keith Self (R-TX) and Ralph Norman (R-SC), flipped, the final vote was 218-215-1. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the only dissenter on the Republican side to vote instead for Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN).
Although the Republican process was not without a few hiccups and some intrigue after the president-elect got involved, the Democratic side of the aisle also had its moments of drama, namely when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said, which was probably the first time in American history that the word “fart” was used on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“We’re going to fart hard, fight hard, for the freedom to vote!” Jeffries bizarrely proclaimed to his fellow Democrats, while also hilariously declaring, “There are no election deniers on our side,” even though Jeffries himself is actually a proven die-hard election denier Hillary Clinton is the equal of the twice-failed Democratic presidential candidate.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who was in the middle of making a fool of himself on the Twitter/X machine, was undoubtedly proud of the “fart” moment — all things considered.
While Jeffries’ fuss over “farts” understandably gets a lot of attention on social media, another embarrassing moment in Friday’s vote for speaker was the way a Democratic House member celebrated Jeffries’ supposed leadership.
Rep. Jonathan Jackson represents Illinois’ 1st Congressional District and officially began his second term in Congress on Friday.
Jackson was eager to express his support for Jeffries after he was nominated for the speaker position by his fellow Democrats, so eager that the picture Jackson posted to show his solidarity…of himself and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ):

Just a few minutes later, Jackson hit the delete button on the tweet and shortly after posted the correct image:
The Democrats are united behind it@RepJeffries
I am proud to cast my vote for him. pic.twitter.com/Ut1BduHE3z– Rep. Jonathan L. Jackson (@rep_jackson) January 3, 2025

They say, “The internet is forever,” and unfortunately for Jackson, that’s definitely the case here.
That being said, I’m inclined to show Jackson a little mercy here. I mean, let’s be straightforward, if I were a Democrat, I wouldn’t be all that eager to post a picture of myself standing next to the guy who just said that he and his colleagues in the next session ” “fart hard” would congress.
Right? After all, you have to draw a line somewhere…
