CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Derrick Evans, a former member of the West Virginia House of Representatives from the 19th District (R), received a pardon from President Trump on Monday after previously being convicted for his actions on January 6, 2021.
As part of his inaugural address, President Trump pardoned 1,500 defendants in connection with that day. In one Post created on XEvans praised God and Trump for the pardon.
“My name has been deleted. I have my rights back. I have my life back,” Evans said in the post.
Evans was one of many who stormed the US Capitol on January 6th, even livestreaming parts of it on Facebook. Shortly afterwards, he pleaded guilty to committing a crime against civil society, resigned from his position in the House of Representatives and ultimately served a three-month prison sentence.
He sought to make a political comeback by running in the West Virginia primary in 2024, but lost to Republican incumbent Carol Miller.
