Washington (AP)-a officer of the Ministry of Finance wrote a letter to federal legislature on Tuesday that a technical executive who works with Elon Muskt Department of Government Efficiency will have “writing-protected access” to the government’s payment system.
The official sent the letter from the concerns of members of the congress that the participation of Doge in the payment system for the Federal Government could lead to security risks or missed payments for programs such as social security and Medicare. The legislator also fears that Musk, a non -elected citizen, is too much power within the US government and states on its social media platform, the Doge trift signs, which will close payments to organizations, exercises too much power.
Doge, a Task Force of Trump Administration, which was assigned to find ways to dismiss federal workers, shorten programs and reduce the federal regulations, has expressed concerns about the intentions and over -control of career officers in several agencies. Democratic legislators have expressed frustration on the lack of transparency and public accountability and said that Musk’s population may be illegally holding payments for their political agenda.
The finance officer said that the ongoing “review” “has not delayed or redirected or diverted payments for obligations such as social security and medicare”.
The letter states that Tom Krause, who is also listed online as CEO of the Cloud software group, also said Krause that Krause does the efforts in coordination with a career.
Krause did not respond to a telephone request for Associated Press in order to receive a statement on his participation in Doge and the finance department.
The payments of the Ministry of Finance are administered by the financial service, which carries out over 1.2 billion transactions annually and accounts for 90% of the federal payments. The official said that the review was about payment integrity.
However, some Democrats are not convinced of the idea that Doge, Musk and Krause have writing -protected access.
“Some Republicans try to propose that Musk is only acceptable to access to the highly sensitive payment system of the Ministry of Finance”.
“But why should we believe that – especially if he says loudly and repeats the opposite so that everyone can see them?”
For example, Musk has tweeted on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that doge has concluded payments to a Lutheran charity. “Corruption and waste are rooted in real time,” said Musk to X and added that Doge “quickly shut down” payments to the charity.
At least one lawsuit was submitted by a group of unions and supporters to prevent the Ministry of Finance from giving Doge and Musk access to the payment systems.
Doges access to the agency’s payment systems came after the acting deputy secretary of the Ministry of Finance, David Lebryk, resigned from his position at Treasury after more than 30 years of service. The Washington Post reported on Friday that Lebryk had resigned from his position after Musk and his Doge organization had applied for access to sensitive finance ministries.
“The budgetary service fulfills some of the most important functions of the government,” said Lebryk in a letter to national workers. “Our work may be unknown to most of the public, but that doesn’t mean that it is not exceptionally vital. I am grateful that I was able to work with some of the best and most talented employees in the country. “
The letter to the legislator was sent on Tuesday afternoon, while hundreds of demonstrators before us Treasury, signs, drums and sung slogans against the decision of the finance department to hand over access to sensitive payment systems.
People sang “Deport Musk”, “Down with Trump” and “Make your job congress!” More than a dozen democratic legislators spoke to the crowd.
“Elon Musk captures the power of the American people,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). “He is here to take power for himself, we are here to defend ourselves.”
Maureen Jais-Mick, a resident of Montgomery County, appeared to the event to protest against Musk’s “obvious power business” and the Doge Committee. “This is a coup d’état,” she said.
