Klobuchar will replace the retirement Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow as chairman of the influential steering and political committee.
“I am someone who believes that you have to keep your floor, but also have to find similarities and have to search for solutions,” said Klobuchar during a press conference on Tuesday.
Booker joined the tour in a newly created position as chairman of the Strategic Communications Committee.
“I look forward to not only serving this caucus, but also the larger mission to drive our country forward and drive an agenda ahead that really focuses on Americans,” said Booker.
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was once again elected as the party of the party, the Democrat No. 2.
Chuck Schumer from New York was unanimously elected as the leader of the Democrats, according to a democratic leaders from the Senate. Schumer has been the democratic leader since 2017 after the tardy Senator Harry Reid from Nevada retired.
“Our caucus has passed the historical legislation that has improved the life of millions of Americans, and we remain laser that focuses on managing the most urgent challenges for our country,” said Schumer in an explanation after the elections.
“We have a lot of work in front of you – in the Senate and as a country – and in this upcoming congress, our caucus will continue to fight for what is best for the American working class. Senate Democrats are ready to come to work for them, the American people, ”he continued.
Control
The elections to the party leadership came when Democrats lost their slim majority in the Senate and the Republicans recorded four seats in Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia last month. The majority will be 53-47.
Although Schumer lost control of the upper chamber in January when the up-to-date congress is called in January, they will strive for two -party way.
“As I have said for a long time, it is our preference to secure non -partisan solutions and, if possible, search for opportunities and look for ways to work with our Republican colleagues to help work,” said Schumer. “However, our Republican colleagues should not make a mistake, we will always work for our values.”
“We have opposed gravity”
Klobuchar said she would miss her Senate colleagues like Sherrod Browns Sherrod from Ohio and Jon Tester by Montana, both of whom were defeated in their re -election offers.
But she said that the Democrats still won challenging races in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin, which she attributed to Schumer’s efforts.
“And in many ways when you look at this choice,” said Klobuchar and distinguished a targeted break before it continued: “We opposed gravity.”
Then she looked around in the room and asked reporter what she went to up to one grumbling: “Wicked”.
“That’s right, we have opposed gravity,” said Klobuchar, proud of her pop culture reference to a song in the newly published film “Wicked”.
“And we will continue to do so to reach these people in our country, to the voters who may not hear us as well as they should, and that is one of the reasons why I’m so excited, with Cory (Booker ) to work together, ”said Klobuchar.
Among other things, Sens. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts and Mark Warner from Virginia were elected as co-vice chair of the conference.
The Senator of Wisconsin, Tammy Baldwin, was elected as the secretary of the Democratic Conference of the Senate and the Senator of Nevada Catherine Cortez Masto as deputy chairman of Outreach. Outreach’s chairman is Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
