Charleston, WV (WoWK) President Donald Trump picked up the Senator of West Virginia, Mike Stuart (R-Kanawha), as General Counsel for the US Ministry of Health and Human Services.
If the US Senate were confirmed, Senator Stuart would work with the former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the President Trump selected on November 14, 2024 for the management of the department.
Senator Stuart called the nomination an “enormous honor” for herself and the state of West Virginia.
“I’m really humble about this extraordinary opportunity,” said Senator Stuart. “I fully appreciate that it goes hand in hand with immense responsibility. I am approaching this great honor with a deep sense of the purpose of supporting President Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the committed people of DHHS to meet historical and stimulating challenge to make them great and well again.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) congratulated on his nomination and said she was glad that President Trump nominated a West virginian to drive his agenda at HHS. As the main course of the agency, I look forward to the efforts that we can take together. “
Senator Stuart was elected in the 7th district of the Senate in 2022. In the 2024 primary election, he ran unsuccessfully for the nominated Republicans for the Attorney General. He lost to the auditor John McCuskey, who defeated the democratic challenger lawyer Teresa Toriseeva.
Stuart headed Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign in West Virginia. He then acted as a US lawyer of the southern district of West Virginia.
