Washington (AP) – federal authorities have to develop plans to eliminate employee positions, according to a memo that will be distributed on Wednesday by President Donald Trump’s administration, which starts a comprehensive realignment of the American government.
The memo expands the efforts of the Republican President to reduce the federal workforce, which he described as an obstacle to his agenda. Thousands of probationists have already been released, and now his administration is turning career officers with the protection of the public service.
“We reduce the size of the government. We have to, “said Trump during the first cabinet seat of his second term.” We are bloated. We are sloppy. We have a lot of people who don’t do their job. “
The wavy effects can be felt across the country. Around four fifths of the federal workers live outside the area in Washington, and the state services patent permits, food inspections, park maintenance and multiple can be hindered depending on the handling.
Resistance is expected. Unions, democratic heads of state and other organizations have with some success to tardy down Trump with legal disputes, while the Republicans are more concerned about how a strategy could affect their voters.
The agencies are instructed to submit their plans for a so -called reduction of strength that not only dismiss the employees, but would also eliminate the overall position. The result could be extensive changes in the functioning of the government.
Further plans will be due on April 14 if agencies are expected to see how they consolidate management, become more competent and possibly move offices to parts of the country that are cheaper than Washington. The memo said agencies should implement their plans by September 30th.
Administrative officials frame their efforts as a cost -saving measure, but with a clear ideological goal.
“The Federal Government is high-priced, ineffective and deeply owe. At the same time, no results will be achieved for the American public, “said the memo of Russell Vouht, director of the management and budget of the White House, and Charles Ezell, reigning director of the Office for HR management, which acts as a personnel agency.
VOUGHT was an author or a project in 2025, a conservative blueprint for Trump’s second term, and he campaigned for the centralization of power under the presidency and the reduction of the German bureaucracy.
“We will not save our country without a little confrontation,” said Vought last summer during a podcast by Trump Ally Stephen Bannon.
Kevin Owen, an employer who represents federal employees, compared the administration’s initiative to the disorders caused by the government’s closure during the congress budget.
“This looks like a plan for a significant and shocking reduction in the federal workforce, for which the American people are not prepared,” said Owen.
He said that Trump and his allies focused more on speed than on precision than they revised the government.
“Your plan is to cause the damage and be sued,” he said. If a court ultimately rules against them: “At this point, they would have received what they wanted in the meantime.”
Specific goals for reductions were not included in the memo, but Trump said that the environmental protection authority could reduce its workforce by 65%.
Trump had signed the efforts in an executive order that he signed with Elon Musk, the billionaire, who monitored the so -called Department of Government Efficiency, known as Doge.
The order arrangement states to prepare “preparations for the introduction of large power of strength” or Rif.
Some departments have already started this process. The General Services Administration, which the Federal Real Estate takes over, informed the employees on Monday that a reduction in violence was ongoing and that they “everything in our power to make their descent fair and dignified”.
Law enforcement agencies, national security, public security, military positions and postal services in the United States are excluded.
The memo was convened shortly before Trump convened both cabinet officers and Musk, who took part in the meeting, who had a black campaign hat “Make America Great Again”.
Musk described himself as a “modest technical support” for the federal government during the meeting and spoke in the existential view of his paid crusade.
“If we don’t, America will go bankrupt,” he said.
Musk has caused turbulence within the federal employees, most recently by demanding that the employees justify their work or relieve the risk. OPM later said that the edict was voluntary, although the workers could confront similar inquiries in the future.
He described his request as a “pulse test”.
“Are these people real? Did you live? And can you write an e -mail? “He said.
Before the meeting, the Press spokesman for the White House, Karoline Leavitt, said reporters that “all cabinet secretaries take on the advice and management of Doge”.
“You will present updates of your efforts and also update what you implement in your agencies in relation to guidelines and the promises that the President made on the campaign path,” said Leavitt.
