The choice of President Donald Trump to head Food and Drug Administration will answer the Senate’s questions on Thursday to his plans for the agency, which will soon be the center of an administrative plan to test vaccines, antidepressants and ultra -sized foods.
Dr. Marty Makary – a surgeon, author and researcher – is known for his contrary views and pronounced criticism of the medical facility. Like the health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Makary is pursuing many of the health problems that Americans for food additives, overturns of drugs and the influence of drug manufacturers, insurers and food companies.
In order to become a commissioner, he must need the majority of members of the Senate Health Committee who will question him on Thursday morning. A confirmation vote by the full Senate is expected later this month.
The FDA has long been a goal for Kennedy who swore last year to “clarify” entire departments of the agency, including those who monitor nutrition. Kennedy recently called for a commission “Make America Healthy Health) to check the security of vaccines, antidepressants, stimulants and weight loss medication alle from the FDA-regulated product initiative in particular in children.
The approach was praised by most Republicans. However, it is expected that Senate Democrats Makary is promoted to his willingness to break with Kennedy on essential questions, including security and the advantages of vaccinations in childhood.
FDA commissioners are usually not involved in the daily scientific reviews of the agency, but they often serve as a buffer between FDA employees and political representatives elsewhere in the government.
For his part, Makary was critical of the agency that he would lead. While he was working as a FOX News mit during Covid-19, he described the FDA as “broken” and “in politics and bureaucracy”.
Despite these views, Makary is considered one of the most conventional candidates for Trump’s health and is generally confirmed. Before the pandemic, Makary was mainly known for influential studies on medical mistakes, hospital costs and overturns of opioids.
The FDA has its headquarters in the suburbs outside of Washington and monitors medical devices and billions of dollars of consumer goods, including most food, cosmetics and steam products.
Makary would take on a particularly turbulent period for the agency. Last month, the FDA abruptly released hundreds of medical experts, researchers and inspectors, only to rebuild some of them a week later. Several high -ranking FDA officers have resigned in the past few months or have retired. It is also expected that the agency will lose more employees for purchases, further layoffs and requirements for the return to itself.

-Crüchungen to keep up with a wave of artificial intelligence-based medical systems
-Right struggles with compounding pharmacies and telemedicine companies for off-brand versions of weight loss medication
In state ethics forms, Makary recently said that he had reduced financial relationships with several companies that could be affected by his work at the FDA, including telemedicine and pharmaceutical companies, which would sell compiled versions of drug-related drugs.
