Cairo (AP) – The military of the Sudan on Saturday determined its main capital and once after checking the Republican palace, more important government buildings decreased from a notorious paramilitary group.

Brig. General Nabil Abdullah, a spokesman for the Sudanese military, said that troops had sold the quick support forces from the headquarters of the National Intelligence Service and the Corinthia Hotel in the center of KhartouM.

The military also recaptured the headquarters of the central bank of the Sudan and other government and educational buildings in the region, said Abdullah. Hundreds of RSF fighters were killed when they tried to flee from the capital, he said.

There was no immediate comment from the RSF.

On Friday, the military recaptured the Republican Palace, the government’s pre -war seat, in a great symbolic victory for the Sudanese military in its almost two years of war against the RSF.

A drone attack on the palace on Friday, which was assumed that it was launched by the RSF, killed two journalists and a driver with Sudanese state television, according to the Ministry of Information. Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Ibrahim from the military media office was also killed in the attack, the military said.

At the beginning of the war in April 2023, the RSF took over several government and military buildings in the capital, including the Republican palace, the headquarters of state television and the besieged military headquarters, known as a general command. It also occupied people’s houses and converted it into bases for their attacks against troops.

In the past few months, the military took the lead in the fights. It has reclaimed a huge part of Khartum and its sister cities of Omdurman and Khartoum North together with other cities elsewhere in the country. At the end of January, the troops picked up the RSF deposit of the General Command and paved the way to regain the palace less than two months later.

The military will probably now try to recapture Khartoum International Airport, only about 2.5 kilometers southeast of the palace, which has been held by the RSF since the beginning of the war. Videos that were published on social media on Saturday showed soldiers on a street to the airport.

The war destroyed the capital and other urban cities across the country. It killed more than 28,000 people, forced millions to flee from their houses, and some families who eat grass eat in a desperate attempt to survive as a famine. Other estimates indicate a much higher number of fatalities.

The fights were shaped by atrocities, including mass rape and ethnically motivated murders, which, according to the United Nations and International Legal Groups, are against the crimes and crimes against humanity, especially in the western region of Darfur.
