At the weekend, Johnson concluded a contract with the GOP MP Anna Paulina Luna (Florida), who cited the indictment in order to force Floors’ action in the voice. Her compromise would create a system of “pairing of voices”, which should enable pregnant legislators and youthful mothers with a remote voice while taking invoices into account on the floor, even if not a direct voice.

The compromise overcrowded Luna, but not the democratic sponsors of the underlying voting rights legislation-the Members Brittany Pettersen (Colorado) and Sara Jacobs (California)-who accuse Johnson to achieve their proposal for the questioning of the parent while leaving lawmakers with youthful families.

“The reality is: this result is not dealing with the obstacles that we have so difficult to overcome,” said Pettersen in an explanation on Monday.

“Instead of having us vote, he did historical efforts instead to kill our resolution and ensure that the vast majority of its members have no voice,” she continued. “Let us be clear: these changes are not a victory for us and spokesman Johnson has turned their backs on mothers and fathers in the congress and working families.”

The voting right department became very controversial after the former spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Was carried out in the early phases of the Covid 19 pandemic as a precaution of public health. The move was loudly convicted by many Republicans who had reduced the threat to the public health of the virus and described the remote coordination as unconstitutional.

Johnson was among these GOP critics. And he reinforced his constitutional argument when he refused to refuse the law of Pettersen, despite the support that it enjoys from the majority of the house.

Last month Luna did exactly that and put the stage for the voting laws on the ground.

However, Johnson had other ideas. And last week the spokesman tried unusual efforts to block the vote and installed special instructions as a rule that would prevent the invoice from reaching the soil. Behind Luna, nine Republicans joined all the Democrats to kill this rule, which forced Johnson to cancel the votes for the rest of the week.

Johnson and Luna seemed to break their dead end on Sunday and announced a compromise with “pairing of voices”. According to this system, pregnant legislators and recent mothers were able to coordinate with members in Washington at home, to vote the planned on the opposite side of a problem. If such a member agreed to waive the vote, this would revoke the absence of the youthful mothers.

Luna praised the compromise and suggested that it would also apply to legislators who cannot be in Washington due to an illness or the latest death of a loved one.

“If we really want a younger congress,” said Luna, “these are the changes that have to happen.”

Democrats are not so enthusiastic. They swear to urge that real proxy votes for youthful parents are right, even if it means that the house is controlled by Democrats.

“From the beginning, our common goal was to support new parents so that they can do their work and be able to vote on behalf of their voters while they take care of themselves and their families at the same time,” said Jacobs in an explanation. “Unfortunately, this” deal “no longer remains this goal – the welding of new parents and maintaining the status quo and the idea that the congress is ineffective and out of date.”

“We will always urge innovative opportunities to support young people and parents in the congress – including modernizing our coordination – even if a democratic majority is necessary to do so.”
