Boston (AP) – Former Vice President Mike Pence will receive the John F. Kennedy profile in Courage Award on Sunday because he refused to remain in office with the efforts of President Donald Trump after loss of election in 2020.

Pence recognizes the award “that he jeopardized his life and career to ensure the constitutional transfer of the presidential power on January 6, 2021,” said the JFK Library Foundation when it was announced last month. Pence receives the award in the JFK library in Boston.

Trump put pressure on Pence under pressure to reject the elections from swing states, in which the Republican President incorrectly claimed that the vote was impaired by fraud. Pence declined and said that he was missing such authority. When a lot of Trump pendants stormed the Capitol, some sang that they wanted to “hang Mike Pence”. Pence was whisked by Secret Service Agents, which narrowly avoided confrontation with the rioters.

“Mike Pence did not have the courage to do what should be done to protect our country and our constitution, and gave the states the opportunity to certify a corrected series of facts, not the fraudulent or faulty that they previously certified.

Pence rejected the advice of the secret service that he left the Capitol and remained to continue the certification of the President of the President of the Democrat Joe Biden as soon as the rioters were clarified.

The profile in Courage Award, named after a book Kennedy, which was published in 1957 before becoming president, honors civil servants who, despite the potential political or personal consequences, take fundamental stands. The former recipients of the award include former President Barack Obama, George HW Bush and Gerald Ford.

“The political courage is not outdated in the United States. At each government level, the leaders put the country in the first place and not to reset,” said Caroline Kennedy and Jack Schlossberg, the daughter and the grandson of JFK, both of which are awarded with the award. “His decision is an example of the conviction of President Kennedy that an act of political courage can change the course of history.”

In a statement, Pence said that he was “deeply humble and honored” to receive the award.

“Since my youth, I have been inspired by the life and words of President John F. Kennedy and I feel honored to join the society of so many respected Americans who have received this recognition in the past,” said Pence.

Pence has developed into one of the few Republicans who are willing to take over the Trump government.

His political group of action, which promotes American freedom, campaigned against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s appointment to lead the nation’s health authorities. He gave speeches who ask the President to stand with long -standing foreign allies and published an article that he had written more than a decade ago about the borders of the presidential power after Trump claimed: “Whoever saves his country does not violate a law.”
