Washington (AP) – Prostate cancer was diagnosed with former President Joe Biden, his office said on Sunday.
The finding occurred after the 82-year-old reported on urine complaints that doctors discovered a knot on his prostate. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, whereby the cancer cells spread to the bones.
“While this is a more aggressive form of the disease, cancer seems to be sensitive to hormone, which enables effective management,” said his office. “The president and his family check the treatment options with his doctors.”
Prostate cancer types are assessed using a so -called Gleason score for aggressiveness. The scores range from 6 to 10, with 8, 9 and 10 prostate cancer behaving more aggressive. Biden’s office said his score was 9, which indicates that his cancer was the most aggressive.
When prostate cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it often spreads on the bones. Metastatic cancer is much more complex to treat than localized cancer, as it can be complex for medication to reach all tumors and exterminate the disease completely.
However, if prostate cancer needs hormones to grow as in bidens, you can be susceptible to treatment that deprives the tumors of hormones.
The results have improved in recent decades, and patients can expect to live with metastatic prostate cancer for four or five years, said Dr. Matthew Smith from General Brigham Cancer Center from Massachusetts.
“It is very treatable, but not curable,” said Smith. “Most men in this situation would be treated with medication and neither surgery nor a radiation therapy would be carried out.”
Many political leaders sent bidges their wishes for his recovery.
President Donald Trump, a long -time political opponent, found on social media that he was unhappy about the news and “we wish Joe a quick and successful recovery”.
Bidens Vice President Kamala Harris said on social media that she kept him in the “hearts and prayers of her family during this time”.
“Joe is a fighter – and I know that he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience and optimism that has always defined his life and leadership,” wrote Harris.
Former President Barack Obama said that his thoughts and prayers were at Biden, his former Vice President, and praises his hardness. “Nobody has done anymore to find pioneering treatments for cancer in all its forms as Joe, and I am sure that he will fight this challenge with his trademark and his grace,” wrote Obama on social media.
Biden’s health was a dominant problem among voters during his time as President. After a catastrophic debate performance in June, when he was looking for a re -election, Biden gave up his offer for a second term. Harris became the candidate and lost to Trump, a Republican who returned to the White House after a four -year break.
In the past few days, however, Biden declined concerns about his age, although Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson had reported in the fresh book “Original Sin” that the helpers had shielded the public before the extent of his decline as president.

His father said when he announced the goal of halving the death rate of cancer, said this could be an “American moment to show ourselves and honestly the world that we can really do great things”.
