Alvarado, a doctor and the son of immigrants, will compete with Kentucky’s 6th seat of the congress district, who is now occupied by the Republican MP Andy Barr, who in a hotly contested race for Senator Mitch McConnell, the former long -time Republican Senate leader, in the next year.

Alvarado viewed as an increasing conservative star in his years in the Senate in Kentucky and promised to realize President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda when he started his congress campaign.

“The Kentuckians are fed up with open borders, sky-high-high prices and non-chosen bureaucrats that take our freedoms,” said Alvarado in an explanation. “I know myself for the congress to fight for working families, to stop the invasion on our southern border once and to fight against the Woke agenda.”

Republican representatives of the state, Ryan Dotson and Deanna Gordon, used to enter the House race. They also worked their conservative references and set up the prospect of a competitive primary school next spring.

The democratic field also grew on Thursday, with the former state prosecutor Zach Dembo entering the campaign. Dembo, also a former political consultant of Andy Beshear of Kentucky Governor, said his focus would be on creating well-paid jobs, defending himself against Medicaida cuts and opposing tariffs, of which he said that they violate the decisive Kentucky industry.

“Central Kentucky deserves to have a representative in Washington who works for families, lowers their living expenses, expands access to affordable health care and protects their security,” said Dembo in a statement.

The national Democrats list Kentucky’s six under dozens of districts, which they hope to regain the tiny -shaped house in 2026. Other democratic candidates for the Kentucky congress are ex-state Rep. Cherlynn Stevenson and David Kloiber, a former city council of Lexington.

Alvarado left the Senate of Kentucky to act as Commissioner of the Ministry of Health in Tennessee in the government of Republican Governor Bill Lee in 2023.

Lee announced Alvarado’s departure from the State Ministry of Health last week and said, Alvarado “loyal Tennesseans during his entire term”.

Alvarado’s role in promoting Bevin during the 2019 campaign could appear as a topic in the congress race next year when Bevin’s combative style switched off many Kentucky voters.

The 6th district extends from the Bluegrass region from Central Kentucky to the Appalaches. It was piling up between democratic and republican representation for decades, but Barr has locked the seat for GOP for more than a decade and fended off a tough democratic challenger in 2018.

Since then, the legislation of Frankfurt, Kentucky’s capital, which GOP, has removed from the 6th district during the last redistribution and seemed to make it a steeper challenge for Democrats. The district includes the democratically trending Lexington, the second largest city in the state, and covers several rural districts that are Republican strongholds.
