And lo and behold, it looks like the normally Democratic-dominated state of Michigan is moving in the right direction for the November presidential election, which is less than five months away. The following press release shows that several Republican organizations are working together to denounce the current Democratic Secretary of State here in Michigan, Jocelyn Benson, for her sloppy attention to detail in voter signatures.
Here it says RNC press release:
The RNC, Michigan GOP, and NRCC have won an crucial victory to protect mail-in voting in Michigan. We discovered that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson gave secret instructions to election officials to ignore signature verification requirements and instead “assume” the validity of signatures. We filed suit to protect these crucial protections. The court agreed with us, finding that the Secretary’s instructions were unlawful and officials cannot assume the validity of signatures.
RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said, “This legal victory for the RNC affirms the importance of mail-in voting protections in the Michigan Constitution. The Secretary of State’s covert attempts to circumvent these rules were rightly rejected by the court, demonstrating that her attacks on election integrity are baseless. This victory is just the latest development in our ongoing fight for fair and transparent elections in the Great Lakes State.”
NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson said: “Michigan residents have a right to free and fair elections. It was a privilege to work with the RNC and the Michigan GOP to win this victory for election integrity. This ruling makes it very clear: We cannot allow an unscrupulous Secretary of State to issue policies that contradict state law.”
Pete Hoekstra, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said: “Secretary of State Benson does not get to pick and choose which election laws to enforce and which to ignore. The signatures of mail-in voters must and should be verified – that is common sense. Michigan is critical to the path to victory in November. We must protect and enforce all of our election laws to maintain confidence in our system.”
Here is what Republicans think of Benson exactly here so that you can read it at your leisure.
In the brief term, it’s encouraging to see federal Republicans working with the state Republican Party to put it on the record that Benson was a bit of a disaster at signature verification.
However, Michigan is still a BLUE STATE, having switched to purple voters’ favor in 2016 with a lead of 11,000 votes for Trump.
Michigan is a BLUE state and lies about it will not change that fact
Since the departure of the last conservative Republican governor, John Engler, members of the Michigan GOP have lied that the state was red, even though it was steadily trending toward purple and then blue. That lie has done even more damage, allowing Democrats to control the three highest offices in the state and the state legislature for the first time in over 30 years. Deal with the facts as they are on the ground, not what a highly paid consultant wants you to believe, and then do the legislature at the local level to put Republicans in office.
This is how Donald Trump won a narrow victory here eight years ago by 11,000 votes. With Joe Biden’s tailwind, Trump could win this state by 2 or 3 percentage points this time and secure the White House for another four years.
Hopefully the Republican Party in Michigan will get support from those who claim to support Trump but are upset about other things.
Hopefully.
