Washington (AP) – the new President Poland, Karol Nawrocki, will visit the White House on Wednesday to strengthen his relationship with President Donald Trump and to determine that the United States has to maintain its mighty military presence in its country.
A visit to Washington is Nawrocki’s first trip abroad since taking office last month. After Trump has taken the unusual step to involve the elections of a long -term ally to get involved in Poland and to support Nawrocki, the candidate for nationalist law and judicial party.
Now in office, Nawrocki, a former amateur boxer and historian, hopes to deepen his relationship with Trump for Warsaw.
Trump is increasingly frustrated by his inability to make Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stand up for direct discussions that aim to end the more than the three -year war between the neighboring Poland.
Trump met Putin in Alaska last month and then with Zelenskyy and several European leaders in the White House. From these engagements, he emphasized that he would be able to quickly conversations between Putin and Zelenskyy and maybe three-way talks in which he would take part.
But his optimism of ending an agreement to terminate the war has not yet been interested in making a interest in making a sewn with Zelenskyy.
“Maybe you have to fight a little longer,” said Trump in an interview with the conservative daypower published over the weekend. “You know, just fight on – stupid fights.”
There is also an increased fear in Poland, and Europe has written a lot about Trump’s long-term commitment to a resilient US power attitude on the continent-a significant deterrent for Russia.
Some crucial advisors to the Republican administration have campaigned to shift the US troops and the military of Europe to the Indo-Pacific with China Castle as the most crucial strategic and economic competitor of the United States. Around 10,000 American troops are stationed in Poland.
“The missions are very high for the visit of President Nawrocki,” said Peter Doran, Analyst at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. “Trump will have the opportunity to increase the new President of Poland, and Nawrocki will also have the opportunity to do the same. Failure in this meeting would mean a withdrawal of the American power attitude in Poland, and success would mean a clear confirmation of Poland as one of the most important allies on the front.”
Trump made it clear that he wanted Nawrocki to win Poland this spring before the election of Poland and dangled the prospect of closer military bonds when the Poles chose Nawrocki.
Kristi Noem, secretary of the home protection protection, also traveled shortly before the election from Poland to Poland to say Poland whether they chose Nawrocki and other conservatives who would have a mighty ally in Trump who would “ensure that they are able to ward off enemies who do not share their values”.
Ultimately, the Polish voters with Nawrocki went in a razed choice, in which he defeated the liberal mayor Rafał Trzaswski.
Nawrocki has repeated part of Trump’s language about Ukraine.
He promises to continue the support of Poland for Ukraine, but has criticized Zelenskyy and accused him of exploiting allies. He has also accused Ukrainian refugees to take advantage of Polish generosity, and has sworn to prioritize Poland for social services such as healthcare and school education.
At the same time, Nawrocki will try to burden Russia’s aggression in Ukraine that Putin cannot be trustworthy, and that a mighty US presence in Poland continues to deter, said Heather Conley, a non -resident senior at the American Enterprise Institute, where she focuses on transatlantic security and geopolitics.
Russia and its ally Belarus will hold joint military exercises in Belarus this month in Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania this month.
“The message that Nawrocki ultimately wants to give President Trump is how dangerous Putin’s revisionism is and that he does not necessarily end with Ukraine,” said Conley.
