BEST MORNING

Democratic staffer brags that Biden bought his vote with “cancelled” student loans and is criticized for it

Certain groups of people should not be allowed to live off the expense of hard-working Americans.

Marlon Wayans’ embarrassing interview with Nathan Wade about his relationship with Fani Willis

I don’t know if Wade thought this was the right thing for him, but his agreement to take part in such a skit only made him seem even more ridiculous.

Is the Chinese military falling apart under Xi Jinping? It seems as if…

I don’t know if China is on the rise, has reached a plateau or is in decline, but what I do know is that we need better leadership on our side to get through the crisis.

WHAT IS ON OFFER?

Today on Capitol Hill…

We are definitely in the summer doldrums in DC. There is not much going on on Capitol Hill on Thursday – just three hearings:

  • Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee – Hearings to examine the immediate and long-term challenges facing public school teachers, focusing on low wages, teacher shortages, and underfunded public schools
  • Senate Judiciary – Hearings to Consider Pending Nominations (First Circuit, Sixth Circuit, and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and Vermont)
  • Joint Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (US-Helsinki Commission) — Received a briefing on the proliferation of Laws for foreign agents based on the Russian model

White House, what’s going on

President Joe Biden needs to rest after trips to France and Italy and before the highly anticipated debate with former President Donald Trump next week. The only thing on his schedule for Thursday is traveling from Rehoboth Beach to Camp David.

Full speed ahead…

The corruption/bribery trial of Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) was scheduled to resume. It looks like this case will take several more weeks.

It’s also another day of Supreme Court decisions. We’re almost at the end, with 24 decisions still pending, so expect some newsworthy opinions.

Of highest importance

At the time of this writing, the Republican primary for VA-05 (between John McGuire III and Bob Good) has not yet been counted. Just over 300 votes separate the two, and it may be a day or three before the primary is officially tallied—and given the close results, we may have to expect a recount.

MORNING THOUGHTS

Happy first day of summer! It’s my absolute favorite day of the year. The longest. The easiest. And then it’s all damn downhill. Anyway, I’m going to enjoy our bright day with temperatures in the 80s, even if people in other parts of the country are getting their cars out of hailstorms and the like.
