Washington (AP) – President Donald Trump plans to meet the federal government on Monday, one day before the deadline to finance the federal government, with the four best congress leaders in the White House or to face a closure.
The meeting with the spokesman for the House spokesman Mike Johnson and the majority leader of the Senate, John Thune, as well as the democratic chairman of the House, Hakeem Jeffries and the Senate Minister of the Senate Chuck Schumer, was confirmed on Saturday by an official of the White House and two other people who are familiar with the planning. They received anonymity to discuss a meeting that was not announced.
“President Trump has again agreed to meet the Oval Office. As we repeatedly said, the Democrats will deal with a cross -party spending contract at any time and at any time that meets the needs of the American people,” said Schumer and Jeffries in a joint explanation on Saturday evening. “We are determined to avoid the government’s closure and tackle the Republican health crisis. Time expires.”
The meeting was first reported by Punchbowl News.
For days, the parties had refused in a patient situation, as Democrats, namely in the Senate, to offer the necessary votes to adopt a financing measure that would keep the government open beyond Tuesday.
Without an action, a shutdown on Wednesday would start at 12:01 p.m.
The Democrats had secured a meeting with Trump until the Republican leaders intervened and the President aborted it. But Schumer spoke privately to Thun on Friday and urged the majority leader to spend a meeting with Trump because he was based on the adjutant from Schumer due to the approximate funding period.
“While the ranked democrats begin to question the non -sustainable position of their leadership, Senator Schumer is clearly nervous,” Ryan Wraund, a spokesman for Thun, replied on Saturday evening. “There is a simple way out and you have the chance to take it next week.”
Democrats who believe that they have leverage have insisted on crucial provisions of health care for their voices. You want to expand subsidies that complete an income with low and medium income from the Affordable Care Act. Democrats also insist on reversing cuts against Medicaid that included the signature tax measure of the GOP at the beginning of this year.
The Republicans say that these claims are non -types and that they are willing to talk to Democrats about these questions that have separated from the government’s financing talks. The GOP calls for a straight extension of current financing for seven weeks.
At the beginning of the week, Johnson admitted that he had encouraged Trump not to meet the democratic leaders.
“He and I talked about it yesterday and the day before. I said that if you do your job as soon as you do the basic government work, to keep the government open as president, you can have a meeting with him,” said Johnson on his home state Louisiana on the show by Mike & McCarty in his Heimatstaat Louisiana. “Of course it may be productive at this time, but at the moment it is only a waste of time.”
And Thune, Rs.d., had said at the beginning of the week that “he had a conversation with the president” and held his opinion on the meeting that he had rejected. “But I think the president speaks for himself and I think he came to the conclusion that the meeting would not be productive,” said Thun.
The Democrats expressed confidence that voters would blame Trump and Republicans for federal services disorders, although this is not guaranteed at all.
The Republicans, on the other hand, set out for the working week with the plans of the Senate to continue to present the refusal of the Democrats to agree to the Stopgap measure, while the GOP is planning to keep the GOP from House away from Washington if they are involved in their own incorrectness, democratic alternatives.
That too was potential political disadvantages for home republicans when Democrats hammered her as “on vacation” because she said like Jeffries.
