Democrats continually underestimate Donald Trump. Even eight years later, they still assume that Trump is the political novice he was in 2016 and has learned nothing about Washington, DC, the people who run it, and how it works. If he is reelected to a second term, they have no idea how wrong they would be. They will witness firsthand Donald Trump teaching them exactly who they are and how they operate. Republicans have long been demanding that Trump’s first order of business should be to pristine up the “deep state,” and there is one group trying to do just that.
One of Trump’s White House lawyers now publicly confirms that he secretly worked against him to prevent the Justice Department from investigating the 2020 election fraud.

Tom Jones was formerly an associate of former Republican Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina and Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) and worked on Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign. He currently leads a group called American Accountability Foundation. Quietly, Jones and his group are searching for possible culprits in the deep state by examining the backgrounds of certain high-level government employees who may be hostile to and working against the Trump administration’s policies. In addition to individual backgrounds, things like social media posts are also being investigated. They have started with employees at the Department of Homeland Security. The group has secured a $100,000 grant from the Heritage Foundation and has set a goal of publishing 100 names on a website, possibly over the summer, to expose those who might be hostile to a second Trump administration. Some of the employees in question could be candidates for reclassifications, transfers or firings. Jones said bluntly, “We need to understand who these people are and what they’re doing.”
Jones’ group is also working closely with the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a blueprint for a modern Conservative government. One of the most significant projects of Project 2025 Proposals include restoring the Trump era Schedule F policy, which would reclassify tens of thousands of federal employees as political appointees, allowing for mass layoffs. This would revoke a decree from April 2024 This makes it more arduous to fire federal employees. The federal government currently employs about 2.2 million people. Of these, 4,000 are considered political appointees who move from one administration to the next. However, many of them are “career professionals.” In other words, entrenched lifers.
The American Accountability Foundation’s current focus is on the highest-level officials in the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department, as well as other agencies, who may be prepared to take action against future Trump immigration and deportation plans, particularly those classified as GS-13, GS-14, and GS-15, as well as those who hold senior positions.

Naturally, those who might be the target of the American Accountability Foundation’s reform are crying foul. Jacqueline Simon, political director of the American Federation of Government Employees, dismissed the Heritage Foundation’s phrasing of rooting out “anti-American evildoers” as “shocking.” She added, “It just seems like their goal is to threaten federal employees and spread fear.” The union supports Joe Biden. Skye Perryman, CEO of the advocacy group Democracy Forward, called it “disturbing” and said it was reminiscent of “the darker parts of American history.” She added, “They’re trying to undermine our democracy. They’re trying to undermine the way our government works for the people.” Predictably, the efforts of Jones and his group have been compared to McCarthyism.
Jones dismissed the left-wing pearl necklace, saying, “I think it’s important for the next administration to understand who these people are. You can’t make policy and then say, ‘Hey, don’t question me.'” He added, “We’re asking ourselves, ‘Are the wrong people on the bus right now who are openly hostile to efforts to secure the southern border?'”
No doubt, plans are underway for a second Trump administration. Part of those plans is to eliminate anyone who might try to undermine that administration in any way. The Democrats will call it “revenge.” But Donald Trump will be able to quote one of his predecessors and say: “I have won.”
