WASHINGTON – An attempt to force President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval for further military action in Iran failed for a fourth time in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, as all but one Republican continued to support the president’s Middle East conflict.
Senators rejected the measure by a vote of 47-52, with a party split similar to previous votes in which one Republican and one Democrat broke with their parties.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who previously supported one of the Iran War Powers resolutions, split again from his party and opposed Trump’s military actions in Iran, which the president launched without congressional approval.
As before, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., was the only Democrat to support Trump in continuing the war in Iran.
Sen. Jim Justice, R-W.Va., did not vote.
Senate Democrats did promised more votes It’s about curbing Trump’s joint operations with Israel in Iran.
Wednesday’s War Powers Resolution was sponsored by Sens. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., Tim Kaine, D-Va., Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Adam Schiff, D-Calif. and Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., sponsored.
Fourth failed vote
Previously, there was a vote to end Trump’s uncontrolled military operations in Iran March 18th, March 4th And June 27thwhen the US and Israel bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities last year.
The US-Israeli war in Iran has left 13 American soldiers dead and 395 injured as of Wednesday, according to the Pentagon. Thousands of civilians in Iran and across the Middle East have been killed and injured by shelling on both sides.
Meanwhile, the war has triggered an oil crisis around the world, both in Iran and in the United States vie for control the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage that connects the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea and carries a fifth of the world’s oil and liquid natural gas.
One gallon normal gas According to AAA, diesel prices averaged $4.16 in the U.S. last week and reached nearly $5.97. On Wednesday, a gallon of regular gasoline averaged $4.10 and diesel cost $5.63.
A Quinnipiac University survey Figures released Wednesday showed voters blamed Trump for the rise in gasoline prices by a margin of nearly 2-1.
