Think about it. How pathetic it is when we have reached a state where even Democrats admit that it will be a “huge victory” if Joe Biden can “stand tall” and “use common sense” in Thursday’s presidential debate with former President Donald Trump. Are we talking about a “competition of the tallest midgets” or what?
Even better, the admonition went down on MSNBC’s ridiculous “Morning Joe.”
In Tuesday’s cartoon-like episode, Washington Post columnist and MSNBC analyst Eugene Robinson made the obvious observation after TDS-plagued MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire kicked off the festivities with this beauty (emphasis mine):
We know, look. Donald Trump can appear disciplined and on the ball for minutes. But we know that this usually doesn’t last.
We know that The Biden campaign will try to provoke long-winded monologues about sharks. In fact, they just wrote about how every week is shark week for Donald Trump. And there it is here too.
We know that Joe Biden has a lot at stake and that he needs to appear capable of the job. But the same is true for Donald Trump.. And for many Americans, Thursday night, you will really hear Donald Trump for the first time in four years. You might be surprised at what you find.
The comedy on the left never ends. The claim that Trump can pull himself together “minute by minute” while the no longer there Biden stares into space, gets lost on the stage and has to be picked up by the fraudulent doctor Jill or led away by Barack Obama is more than ironic.
Robinson did not disappoint and embarrassed himself as always.
Yes. You’ll probably be very surprised to hear about Trump 2024 being obsessed with sharks. So if Biden wants to provoke him, he just says “shark” and “boat” and lets him go. Or says “water.” He has this other talk about water and dishwashers, and it’s very confusing.
But to get him into that kind of rally-Trump mode, in which he appears everywhere on the map. He cannot finish a sentence or thoughtand he improvises in the most bizarre ways. I think that would be an ideal situation for Biden.
OK, stop the tape. WHO can’t finish a sentence or a thought, let alone find his way off the stage? Please.
Robinson then admitted the obvious.
But I basically agree with the analysis. President Biden must stand elevated and make sense. Do what he did in the State of the Union address. And given the expectations that Republicans have set, this is a large victory for Biden. Because you know They basically conditioned Trump supporters to believe that Biden was going to fall over or fall asleep or just have no idea where he was during the debate. And that was a large mistake.
What Biden did “in the State of the Union” was to deliver the angriest State of the Union address in at least current history.

Robinson’s attacks on Trump aside, he was right on that score. Our side – and many on the left – have set the bar so low for Biden’s debate performance that he will “win” if he “stays tall,” remains aware of his position, and does not become completely cognitively absent.
Whatever the case, Thursday’s debate promises pay-per-view quality entertainment.
