WATCH: Scott Jennings makes a crucial point about Biden’s performance as all eyes turn to Kamala

It simply cannot be emphasized enough how bad the first 2024 presidential debate was for President Joe Biden.

He took the stage with a lost and beside himself look, gesturing questioningly toward the podium before shuffling toward it—and it was all downhill from there for him, as former President Donald Trump delivered a knockout punch to him early on and continued to do so throughout the rest of the evening.

Biden’s advisers are panicking. His media apologists were visibly stunned. And some Democrats in the House of Representatives are reportedly already talking about a possible meeting with him to persuade him to resign.

That’s, as Trump would say, HUGE.

Aside from how awful and lost Biden looked all night, the image on the CNN panel after the debate alone will stick in people’s minds for a long time. I mean, when even Biden’s most ardent defenders on the left and in the mainstream press can’t put together a convincing defense of what happened, you know it was bad.

CNN Republican strategist and political commentator Scott Jennings, however, is no Biden propagandist, and in a segment that featured plenty of sedate faces and “where do we go from here?” looks, Jennings got straight to the point:

“I’m worried about the president. We should pray for the president. I think his advisers, the White House and his family have a lot of explaining to do to their party and to the American people. This night, this one night, was caused and demanded by the Biden team. They wanted this night. And that’s what we got.

For weeks, Democrats have been telling us, “Oh, in private meetings, I saw Joe Biden do cartwheels and handstands while practicing trigonometry and solving all of the nation’s problems.” We now know that every single person who said that was lying to the American people.”

He also raised a very important question about what was going on behind the scenes in the White House given Biden’s performance, especially in terms of who was really in control all along. Was it Kamala Harris? Jennings speculated:

“Let me just take the other side of this Kamala Harris debate. It’s a fair question to ask right now: ‘What happens every day in the White House?’ Is she currently making more decisions in the White House than we know? Who is currently making decisions in the White House? We’re talking about this in terms of whether Joe Biden can win an election and stay in office for four years. I want to know what happens every day. For me, she’s the large story tonight because her position in this administration, in this campaign, has become a thousandfold more vital right now.”

We’ve been writing about this almost since the beginning of Biden’s term, and some of us suspect it was probably Jill Biden considering her Edith Wilson-like devotion to her husband’s presidency, which is deeply troubling considering how Wilson, as Biography.com Put itwas “the First Lady who became acting president during the presidency of her husband Woodrow Wilson – without being elected.”

Whatever the case, it’s a question worth asking — and one that should be explored in the weeks leading up to the DNC and then the general election. The only other question that remains is whether the mainstream media will have the guts to do it. Two days ago, I wouldn’t have been hopeful about that, but now — after Thursday night and all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from Biden’s defenders — I think it’s a real possibility.
