The real cheap fakes are exposed

In the first 24 hours after Thursday night’s presidential debate, I watched with amusement as the copium was passed around in media circles as reporters seemed to struggle to explain Joe Biden’s disastrous performance – a performance that confirmed much of what Biden’s critics had been saying all along about his physical fitness and cognitive health.

For example, Chuck Todd, chief political analyst for NBC News and formerly notorious for “Meet the Press,” said the same thing immediately after the debate, as we previously reported.

“You know, one of the things was when one of the two candidates looked like the caricature that the other campaign tried to draw of them – and at the end of the day, Joe Biden looks like the caricature that the conservative media drew,” said Todd, a career Democratic apologist, with a disillusioned look on his face. “And there were no clips [read: cheap fakes] tonight, right, that was – you saw it before your eyes.”

But the more I thought about it, the angrier I became.

An essential reason why bona fide authors do what they do is to inform people, the best of their ability what’s really going on, plain and straightforward. And if you’re a conservative writer, informing people means cutting through the propaganda and lies of the liberal media to get the whole story – not just the sugarcoated or sensationalized one that the press wants you to see (or sometimes withhold).

Conservative writers have been meticulously documenting Biden’s questionable mental acuity since before he was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election, picking up a thread first brought into play by Biden’s critics. on the left in 2019 and is running.

In response, there was a vicious discrediting campaign by the Biden administration and the mainstream media. The same media types who had declared that “democracy dies in the dark” after Trump took office now rushed to turn off those dazzling spotlights as quickly as possible—even cutting off their power—when anything negative or troubling came to lithe about Joe Biden.

One of the worst accusations that can be made against an elected official is that he or she is unfit for office. When such accusations are made, the only options for those accused are either a) to go public and try to prove their critics wrong, or b) to launch a smear campaign against the people making the accusations, hoping that when all the dust has cleared, voters will see the accuser as the one with the real problem and then move on to the next scandal.

Joe Biden has been helped in this endeavor because the media has been on his side from the start — the same media, I should note, that once used “medical experts” to speculate about then-President Donald Trump’s mental health and that once freaked out when Trump slowly walked down a ramp during a closing speech.

A typical example of this is the New York Times. wrote in June 2020:

Trump’s halting walk down the ramp raises up-to-date health questions

The president also appeared to have trouble raising a glass of water to his mouth as he delivered a speech at West Point one day before his 74th birthday, making him the oldest president in his first term.

That was fine, but say a word about Biden’s tendency to appear lost and off track, about his stumbling and stumbling, about having to be led around by handlers and prodded by his wife when she accompanies him, and you’re an insensitive lout practicing gutter politics.

Hey, you don’t have to just take my word for it. The then editor-in-chief of CNN, Chris Cillizza said it himself in 2021:

This is the kind of crude, lowest-common-denominator politics that drives people out of public life. If Republicans have any evidence that Biden’s power is weakening, they should present it. If not, they should stop doing what they’re doing. Immediately.

My RedState colleague Brad Slager has already made a lot of ground in his post-debate indictment of the mainstream media. While I won’t repeat his excellent arguments, I want to highlight one of them:

All these voices in the media today contradict the same media voices from yesterday. What was seen on Thursday evening confirmed everything. the press denied – for weeks, for months and for over four years. The journalists who are currently declaring that Biden’s condition is blatant and must be addressed were only a few days ago complaining that exactly the same The video evidence was fraudulent.

They knew it. They always knew it. And they lied, not just about Biden, but about anyone who dared to raise the issue.

The cheap fakes, with their cheap arguments and their feigned dismay at Biden’s appearance on Thursday night, have exposed once and for all: It’s them, not us.

To prove this point beyond a doubt, one need only look at the same New York Times that wrote just four years ago that Trump’s snail-paced descent of a ramp “raises new health questions”:

I do not have anything to say in addition.
