BEST MORNING

CNN’s Jim Acosta weighs in on Biden’s ‘Napgate’ and gets exactly the answers he deserves

Dear Diary, would you make sure the CNN set was stocked with extra-strength Tylenol, blank copies of the Hurt Feelings Report, smelling salts, and fainting couches on election night?

They can’t even convince the employees.

What a mess.

Nikki Haley ends ABC’s Stephanopoulos with just four words: “Do you believe me now, George?”

As much as the President was exposed by his blank stares and incomprehensible mumbling during the debate, so too was the media that had covered it up for so long.

WHAT IS ON OFFER?

Today on Capitol Hill…

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, the only congressional activity currently taking place is the behind-the-scenes machinations – primarily by Democrats – regarding the presidency and the upcoming election. Expect Capitol Hill to be lively again after the holidays.

White House, what’s going on

It will be a tranquil morning and early afternoon for President Joe Biden. He’ll probably spend it with his family. Or take a nap. (No word on who’s bringing the cocaine this year.) But on Thursday night, he and First Lady Jill will host a Fourth of July Independence Day celebration on the South Lawn for vigorous military and veterans’ families. Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will also attend.

Full speed ahead…

It was supposed to be a tranquil day in the courts, as they are all closed for the holiday. But on this day in 2023, U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty issued his groundbreaking opinion in what was then titled Missouri vs. Biden case, so who knows if we will see other freedom-loving judges impress us with a decision on Independence Day?

MORNING THOUGHTS

The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. It’s maybe second only to Christmas. I love that we take a day to celebrate our country in all its disordered glory. This one is a little different. First, the weather here in ol’ STL is changeable at best — thunderstorms and bulky rain this morning; bulky thunderstorms are expected tonight. That puts a bit of a damper on pool time and fireworks. Second, I work most of the day. Don’t get me wrong — I love my job and love being able to spend the day delivering you, our lovely readers, the content you count on. It just seems a little less holiday-y. Third, everything feels a little disordered and off track (because it is). Still, I’m going to persevere and raise a beer and a sparkler to all of you and our amazing, handsome venerable country!

LIGHTER FOOD

Happy birthday, ‘Merica!
