In less than a week, the Republican National Convention (RNC) begins in Milwaukee. This is where former President Donald Trump will be officially chosen as the party’s nominee for the general election in November. Trump has just received some good news that seems to be related to the timing of the convention.
Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has announced that it Relaxation of restrictions on Trump’s accounts on his platforms, in the name of equal “political expression” before the RNC:
Meta announced Friday that it would lift restrictions on former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts ahead of the Republican National Convention next week.
The company said the decision was made to ensure that Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee, has the same status as Democratic President Joe Biden.
Meta said in a statement:
“In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe the American people should have the opportunity to hear from presidential candidates on the same basis. “Consequently, former President Trump will no longer be subject to the enhanced suspension penalties as the nominee of the Republican Party.”

The company also admitted that there has never been a case where these increased penalties have had to be applied since his account was restored in 2023. In any case, it is unclear whether Trump will enjoy the kindness shown to him by Meta, as he is constrained to posting on his platform, Truth Social, these days.
I have to say one more thing. Meta deserves no credit here. No one in the conservative world has forgotten how Big Tech titans like Meta, Google, and others went to great lengths in the past presidential election to shut down the reach of dissenting political speech to the Democratic orthodoxy. And that injustice is not something that has been remedied in the distant past. Revelations keep coming out about how much machinations went on between progressive elites in Washington and these companies to silence the free speech of half the country. We will never forget that.
