Trump’s message to his supporters was elementary: It is time to drop the numerous cases against him and unite the country.

“As we look to continue to unite our nation after Saturday’s horrific events, this dismissal of the Lawless charges in Florida should be just the first step, quickly followed by the dismissal of ALL witch hunts – the January 6th hoax in Washington, DC, the Manhattan District Attorney’s zombie case, the New York Attorney General’s fraud, false claims about a woman I never met (a decades-old photo in a line with her then-husband doesn’t count), and the ‘perfect’ phone call charges in Georgia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Democratic Department of Justice coordinated ALL of these political attacks that constitute a conspiracy to influence the election against Joe Biden’s political opponent, ME. Let’s come together to stop the weaponization of our justice system and make America great again!”

Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, dismissed the documents case on the grounds that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith circumvented the Appointments Clause of the Constitution.

“The charges are dismissed because the appointment of Special Counsel Smith violates the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution,” she wrote in your commandwhich was released on Monday morning. “Special Counsel Smith’s use of a permanent open-ended appropriation also violates the Appropriations Clause […] However, the Court need not consider the appropriate remedy for this funding breach because the dismissal was made pursuant to the appointment clause. The effect of this order is limited to these proceedings.”
