New Democrats propose nominating Mitt Romney as candidate

How desperate are the Democrats to get rid of Joe Biden? Desperate enough to float the idea of making Mitt Romney their candidate at a public party convention.

No, I’m not joking. The New York Times published an article by Aaron Sorkin on Sunday suggesting that the former Republican presidential candidate could be the savior Democrats need in these obscure times.

If you don’t know Sorkin, he wrote The West Wing and is considered a political savant of the left, even though his imaginative ramblings are so clearly counterproductive. So will Mitt Romney end up being the Democratic nominee? Of course not. Despite his notorious “moderation” and penchant for backstabbing Republicans, the Utah senator would never accept the election.

Furthermore, the Democratic Party in 2024 is a far-left party. The idea that the majority of radicals would join forces with an overly online minority to “save democracy” by nominating a Republican is ridiculous. With an open convention, Bernie Sanders would be more likely to campaign than anyone labeled a “moderate.”

But that’s not really the point, is it? As fantastic as Sorkin’s proposal is, it shows how desperate the Democrats have become. If we’re already at the “nominate Mitt Romney” stage, I shudder to think what they’ll propose in October. This party is so deep in the negotiation stage that acceptance is not yet in sight, and that’s a bit scary considering what they’ve been willing to do in the past to stay in power (and what they’re still trying to do right now).

What we are witnessing here is like a cornered animal. The Democrats have chosen to continue down the path that got them here. They have lied for years about Biden’s condition. They have praised his choice of Kamala Harris based on intersectional qualities, despite her obvious weaknesses. They have refused to remain moderate on even the most solemn issues like the border crisis, and instead have pursued Bernie Sanders’ agenda full steam ahead. Now they are desperately trying to find a way out of the mess they themselves have created.

But that’s the problem. There’s no way out. There’s no good option. There’s no back room exit to escape. Joe Biden is their candidate, and right now he’s losing by a wide margin to Donald Trump. Neither Mitt Romney nor anyone else is riding a white horse to save them from themselves.
